Clements finished! | W Lamb Cycles
http://cycles.wlamb.org/clements-finished
October 5, 2013 11:13 am. It’s actually taken about a month on and off to get Clements all built up. I was going slow and had to resolve some problems along the way. Apologies for overexposed street photos. One issue was the incredibly long fork blades on this frame. I had to cram in about 5mm of spacers to get any kind of decent mudguard lines. I really do not know why they were cut so long – fortunately Mafac brakes can reach the rim. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You must be logged in. To post a comment.

February 28, 2014 7:02 pm. A while ago my girlfriend bought a Mixte frame. We don’t know exactly what it used to be, possibly an old Dawes frame. It’s quite nice. It’s had a fair amount of work done at Mercian Cycles before reaching this stage (seat lug replaced, downtube shifter mounts and a fancy paintjob). Soon it will be built up! Frame building course bicycles by design
http://cycles.wlamb.org/frame-building-course-day-1
Frame building course: day 1. November 12, 2013 9:47 pm. For several years I’ve been thinking about building a bicycle frame. I’ve always been generally disappointed at current bicycle offerings and had a number of quite specific requirements in mind; but since frame sizes and setups are so individual, why not start from the beginning and make it custom all the way? The Bicycles by Design. Next I got sized up on the bicycle fitter. Said measurements were plugged into Bike CAD, which produced detailed dra...

June 9, 2014 8:14 pm. Recently I was able to finish building up the frame I made in Ironbridge. At the moment the cable is tied to the headtube and passes into the mudguard through a grommet. Not an ideal solution, but it’s working at the moment. You can also see a Rinko headset. Here, which I’ve not yet tried out. I’m particularly happy about this mudflap. I’d already trimmed a bit of leather off to use in another project, so it’s slightly shorter, but seems to me the perfect size. You must be logged in.

Clements headset press | W Lamb Cycles

September 17, 2013 8:59 am. I picked up my frame recently! Ellis Briggs do quite a nice paint job. I also asked them to braze bottle bosses on the downtube. These look pretty nice too. The first job was pressing the headset. I had a go with a rubber mallet, but with an eye on the nice paint, made my own press using an M10 threaded rod, two bronze bushings and some washers. You can see in this pic the uneven brazing on the lower headtube lug – not the highest quality construction! You must be logged in.

Frame building course: day 2 | W Lamb Cycles
http://cycles.wlamb.org/frame-building-course-day-2
Frame building course: day 2. November 12, 2013 11:11 pm. Day 2 – mitring day. This was an exhausting day. I had to prepare all the main tubes for the front triangle of the bicycle. It took me most of the morning to get the down tube / bottom bracket joint prepared. And much of the afternoon to get the down tube / head tube mitre nice and snug. Next we drilled bottle cage bosses, which Peter silver brazed – this is tricky and can be expensive! Gratuitous smoking tube picture:. Bicycles by Design Course.

Frame building course: day 4 | W Lamb Cycles

Frame building course: day 4. November 14, 2013 8:39 pm. Today’s job was to complete the rear triangle and the fork. After a bit of cleaning the chain stays were tacked and alignment checked. In the meantime, Peter bent the seat stay caps into a nice curve, which I shaped to fit around the seat lug. I’m very proud of these! They were duly soldered into place, once we had brazed the rear dropouts. It is a mitred rack mount, drilled through into the frame, for attaching a rear light. Although it may sound ...
