Adventures in learning from the world around us! See My Little Vagabonds! Field Trip to Gruyères. July 14, 2015. Within our first weeks in Switzerland, we gathered the kids and headed to the town of Gruyères. I have no idea why the town has an s at the end while the district of Gruyère and their cheese does not). It is also the driest place in the U.S., with less than 2 inches of rain per year, and the lowest, with Badwater Basin being 282 feet below sea level.
