100 miles from Everest. Thursday, 15 December 2011. 100 miles from Everest.Thanksgiving! Being British thanksgiving is something that has never been on our calendar, but in the multicultural expat community things often revert to the American way so thanksgiving is firmly on the calendar this year! 100 miles from Everest: 192.43 miles from Everest (Annapurna Base Camp)

http://100milesfromeverest.blogspot.com/2011/05/19243-miles-from-everest-annapurna-base.html

100 miles from Everest. Thursday, 12 May 2011. 19243 miles from Everest (Annapurna Base Camp). It has been a while since we updated this blog and so much has happened, so forgive us if we try and condense it a little. We went away for 10 days over Easter to go trekking with some friends up to Annapurna base camp. It was great to get out of the city, and having climbed Kilimanjaro last year we thought we’d be OK. To get through the valleys, up in to the Himalayas you must first conquer the hill country.

100 miles from Everest. Sunday, 10 April 2011. 18026 miles from Everest (Kaskikot). We have just come back from two weeks staying in the village of Kaskikot, north of Pokhara near the Anapurna mountain range. It was the final step in our 10 week long language learning marathon! As such we thought we would take you through our time there using some of the new words we learnt. We arrived in the pitch black in the middle of some serious rain. After meeting our host Ama. To our vocabulary which means dead.

100 miles from Everest. Saturday, 19 February 2011. 214953 miles from Everest. This weekend, after three weeks of intensive language study we took a couple of days off to spend some time with Lucy’s parents who were passing through on their way home from Singapore. We decided to get out of the busyness of Kathmandu valley and head south to the Terai (the name given for the flat plains of Nepal that border with India). In what felt a little like an MI5 style of travel arrangements we phoned a num. There w...

100 miles from Everest. Saturday, 22 January 2011. 100 miles from Everest, Finally! Only four short hours from the sunshine of the UAE, Nepal welcomes you with open if a little chilly arms! On our descent we caught some amazing views of the Himalayas and our first glimpses of Kathmandu itself. Once we had met the person picking us up we drove through Kathmandu to the UMN head quarters and what will be our offices. That said, warm food and a good duvet make it all ok. It is probably more like living in So...

http://100milesfromeverest.blogspot.com/2011/10/100-miles-from-everest-and-home-finally.html

100 miles from Everest. Wednesday, 12 October 2011. 100 miles from Everest and Home. Finally! Well we made it back to Nepal in one piece, sorry it has taken so long to publish this blog, it has been written for a while waiting to be uploaded. The journey to our home here in Nepal has been windy to say the least, but a little over a year, six moves and three spare rooms later we have made it! Sadly he didn’t stay still long enough for a photo. Returning to Nepal brought with it some anxieties, it had been...

100 MILES FROM HOME | An experiment in eating locally

100 MILES FROM HOME. An experiment in eating locally. Wild bananas in my cupboard. I don’t like bananas. In fact, I don’t like bananas so much that my younger brother and sister used bananas as a weapon against me; I was chased by relatives wielding ripe bananas. I won’t recover. Apparently, if my sourdough were a beer, the smell of bananas is a sign that my yeast is fermenting at too high a temperature. That’s a good sign, I guess; at least there is yeast in there. What is this mad chemistry? I had no c...
