MB's Art of Cooking: "I am delicious"
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2010/06/i-am-delicious.html
Sunday, June 27, 2010. A few weeks ago, B and I went to DC for a long weekend. Though both of us have visited the capital and environs for various conferences, it had been years since either of us had been there as tourists. His obligatory school trip across the country from California was in eighth grade, and mine in sixth. On this trip, B and I visited some monuments that we hadn't seen in twenty years. Yes, there it is. That's the infamous Watergate complex! Now that E and my brother have tamarind pas...

MB's Art of Cooking: A little bit of white powder
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2009/05/little-bit-of-white-powder.html
Wednesday, May 6, 2009. A little bit of white powder. Let's just say the look she gave me as I attempted to explain this happenstance suggested that the legality of my bags full of white powder was not immediately obvious to the outside observer.). No, today I'm going to write about powdered sugar, a delicious white powder. Oh, powdered sugar, how I love thee! You taste deliciously sweet and provide an aesthetically-appealing topping for cakes and cookies. The final product of which is fancy enough to be...

MB's Art of Cooking: What I do now
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-i-do-now.html
Saturday, August 20, 2011. What I do now. I never thought it would be a year. I did think it might be a while before I came back here regularly, but really, I didn't think it would be this long. I read somewhere that you're not supposed to apologize to your readers on your blog if you haven't posted in a long time because that will make them think that you have a far more interesting life outside the blog. But it's been a very long time, so here I am apologizing nonetheless. And admitting (shocking!

MB's Art of Cooking: May 2010
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 27, 2010. Last week, B and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. And, for the third year in a row, we had a special dinner at Chez Panisse. I think I might say this every year, but I really believe that this was the best dinner we've had there. It was as though all of my springtime favorites were combined in one delicious meal! Also, the company was very nice.). Can you read the menu? I preferred (and still prefer, when feasible) to cook three meals a day. From the Sacramento Bee.

MB's Art of Cooking: Crackberry
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2009/09/crackberry.html
Thursday, September 17, 2009. Blackberries are a fruit I enjoy. But sun-warmed blackberries, picked by the roadside in Sonoma County on a day with blue sky and a few picturesque clouds? Blackberries are indescribably delicious. We also stopped at a fantastic bakery. The ripe, uber-black blackberries were easy to come by. Here's just one of many sprays of berries. It turns out that eight hands are better than four, and we ended up with a ton of blackberries. The first order of business when we got hom...

MB's Art of Cooking: Say Cheese!
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2009/01/say-cheese.html
Sunday, January 11, 2009. Brunch is my favorite meal, and today was the day of the long-awaited cinnamon-themed brunch. It was a success! Delicious food, wonderful friends, great conversation, beautiful views out the window on a sunny San Francisco day. By my count, there were twenty-eight non-MB and B guests (though one of them was only 3 months old). Here's the menu, a.k.a. a few of my favorite things:. Reportedly John Travolta's favorite! Leek-and-mushroom quiche (modified from Julia Child). Are in bl...

MB's Art of Cooking: March 2010
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Somehow, March has shaped up to be like January. Uninspired, that is, at least in terms of this blog. I have to explain to you a few things: I'm not sure how that happened (again! Today, I want to tell you about something I made last month. (I literally must write about it this month, or else it will be really, really old news; I'd be telling you in April about something I made in February! Would receive at Christmastime. Good citrus can be revelatory. Making jam of any sort is...

MB's Art of Cooking: 'Tis the season...of peppermint! (2)
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2009/12/tis-seasonof-peppermint-2.html
Saturday, December 19, 2009. Tis the season.of peppermint! B loves peppermint. As a consequence, the tip of my tongue is burnt. Only slightly burnt, but it's noticeable every time my tongue touches my teeth, or the roof of my mouth. Let me explain. The other day, I was in line at the grocery store when I noticed that there were peppermint-flavored marshmallows displayed prominently next to the check-out. Not only that, they were on sale! I think you can see where this is headed. Thenceforth, I ventured i...

MB's Art of Cooking: Adventures in Canada
http://mbsartofcooking.blogspot.com/2010/08/b-and-i-went-on-vacation-to-alberta.html
Friday, August 27, 2010. B and I went on a vacation to Alberta last month. I hadn't been to Canada since I went on a family trip to Niagara Falls twenty years ago, but I already can't wait to go back! We explored both east and west from Calgary, and the glaciers and lakes and mountains and waterfalls and wildlife are like nothing I've ever seen. Did I mention that the wildlife was awesome? This is a hawk we saw flying not-that-high above in southern Alberta at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. Another highli...
