Friday, August 13, 2010. 8216;Too convenient and too complex’. Five Days in Tokyo. My first experience of this was Tokyo. I was going to Europe but decided to go via Tokyo for a few days. I’d taught a lot of Japanese students as an English language teacher and it had sparked my interest. I had even entertained the idea of working there a couple of years earlier and enrolled in an evening class to learn the language. I could only remember a handful of phrases;. We went to the Edo museum, a remarkable buil...

Thursday, January 6, 2011. One day I noticed Paul, who sat next to me, watching me intently. I looked at him quizzically. "Just watching the ritual", he said. At the time I hadn't thought of it as such, I was just making a cup of tea. But now, looking back, I do the same thing. Recall and watch the rituals. Links to this post. Labels: Two Londons 2007. Maybe it was the diverse and dynamic exam class I had in the mornings, or just being in a new environment, or the three months traveling I had just had, b...

The Mixed Metaphor: April 2012
http://themixedmetaphor.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 20, 2012. So things have been pretty quiet around here, haven't they? This last term has been my most difficult one ever, and I have wanted to write about it, but it really hasn't been my stuff to write about. So I haven't written. In the mean time, as well as smothering myself in work, and trying to figure out how to compartmentalise my thoughts (why can't I be more like Sydney Bristow? There has been much good stuff in my life that really needs acknowledgement. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

http://hunting29words.blogspot.com/2011/07/phoenix-park-dublin-2009.html
Saturday, July 2, 2011. Phoenix Park, Dublin -2009. In 2009 I lived in Dublin for six months and one day I went for walk. Wandering and wondering through Phoenix Park. You can rent bikes at the entrance. I canvass the idea but decide against it. Maybe another day, especially as today I am solo, even the battery in my ipod has died. So there is nothing but the sounds of the park and my own thoughts for company. And the word for the day is green. I am Approaching the Visitors Centre there is a walled garde...

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Is there anything better than a rooftop bar? It was a good start to a great couple of days. I hinted once, twice, fourteen times via email that she really needed to take some time off work and come with me, and yes, she agreed she really should - but what about the website launch? What about the show? What about the…? For a while, I didn’t think it was going to happen. And then it did. And they started, well, he. Not long at all, he had already guessed. What did we do? He ha...

Sunday, October 30, 2011. Dublin Words - Part One. Dublin Words – Part One. 8216; You know I thought you were really boring when we first met’ Sam, Circa 1996. I am not going to tell you where my secret park is because I do not want to spoil the pleasure you’ll get from discovering it yourself. Here is a hint - it’s a stone’s throw from Harcourt St. And when the weather was too wet ( and it regularly was) for parks, I soon discovered indoor gems like the Chester BeattyLibrary. However, when I look back o...

Friday, February 4, 2011. To Mother - sometime in late 2009. I am of a certain age. I wonder who first coined this phrase, and what was the exact age they were referring to, and were they referring to a man or a woman when it was first said and did they have any idea how the phrase would work itself into our vernacular). I find it amusing, and to be honest a little disturbing, that we used to play ‘giving birth’. Was it practising? And it has got me thinking. However, I am also at an age where I have lea...
