My Journey: Heading South
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2011/02/heading-south.html
Sunday, February 20, 2011. Perhaps because we were white tourists, they also included some cutlery on our table - no one else used them . . . and mostly I didn't either. The South Indian way is to eat with your fingers - right. Hand only, of course. Surprisingly, it takes some practice, having been admonished for so many years not to play with our food! My Journey: November 2010
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 26, 2010. In the mean time, I'm settling in at my guest house. I'm not positive yet, but I think I will likely stay here as my primary 'nest' for the duration. As in Guatemala, it is taking some adjustment to adapt to the different standards of cleanliness and conductivity. (Electrical sparks? Sunday, November 21, 2010. The journey continues: Getting ready for India. It appears the universe conspired with me to make it happen. Certainly if you'd told me a year ago that I'd be in Indi...

My Journey: January 2011
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 17, 2011. Returning to India - the next chapter. Despite the desperate last-minute nature of my race home for the holidays, it never really occurred to me not to come back. As I made that difficult decision on the morning of the 24th to 'abandon ship,' I was asked by the people who talked me through it if I would pack up everything - in case I didn't want to return. I declined. One of my favourite jokes is the line, "Want to make God laugh? So I'm back, with a very loose plan, holding it ...

My Journey: India's gender divide...
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2011/03/indias-gender-divide.html
Friday, March 18, 2011. The gender divide is still alive and well in India - sometimes it is thought-provoking, sometimes amusing, sometimes frustrating, and sometimes reassuring. (chivalry can be lovely) Whatever the impact . to say it isn't there would to overlook an important thread in the fabric of society here. Unquestionably, it's changing. the thread is thinner than it was, a little frayed at the edges, but it's still surprisingly strong. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

My Journey: Pilgrimage to the sea - Kerala part 2
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2011/03/pilgrimage-to-sea-kerala-part-2.html
Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Pilgrimage to the sea - Kerala part 2. The convergence. The air in the city is charged, as if there is a storm coming in off the water. It's incredible. It's also the one place in India where you can watch the sun rise and set from the same basic vantage point. We missed the sunset but we set our alarms and got up for the sunrise the next morning. As most of you know, that's a real sign of devotion for me to get up that early (and two days in a row, with jet lag! Antigua is a b...

My Journey: April 2010
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Ready to go home . . . .the long route. Although I'm not exactly certain what caused the shift, it has finally come and I am ready to return to Canadian soil. I think it happened as I approached the prospect of a week in Antigua, celebrating Semana Santa. I know that it cemented upon my return to San Marcos. Or should I stay? Within 36 hours I was offered a job as a waitress; a day later I was offered a place to stay, essentially for free, I just had to pay the hydro bill and tak...

My Journey: June 2012
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 30, 2012. Reflections on becoming a yoga teacher. What is the image of a heart cracking open? Of a body being reclaimed? Of a soul coming into the light? Is it like a closed lotus flower, coming into bloom? Or a crevice in the earth, widening. revealing the dark soil and rocks and heat of her very centre? What is the sound of a heart, yearning to open, to surrender, to deepen? Of a body, finding its true expression and movement? Is it a keening wail? Is it a bird song high in the trees?

My Journey: Integrating India
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2011/06/integrating-india.html
Tuesday, June 21, 2011. It's so interesting to see the paradox of my experience mirrored in the faces of those who ask me to tell them about it.Sometimes I get the reflection, "Sounds like you really enjoyed that".sometimes I hear, "sounds like that was a brutal experience". Yes.and yes. I think that part of it is my need to present a balanced picture, and to ensure that I don't cause anyone to 'lose face' (including Mother India herself). .Or perhaps it's just my own face I am protecting. I am mid-way t...

My Journey: December 2010
http://called2inspire.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Home for the Holidays. First off, to all of my readers, I wish you the happiest of holiday seasons. I've rewritten this next sentence six times, starting with "May you . . . " but I can't quite find the words to describe what I wish for each of you beyond that first holiday greeting. Perhaps that is because I believe that each of us has to choose what we wish for ourselves. Thursday, December 23, 2010. In memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. I confess, as a. I was surprisin...
