April 15, 2009. Narnia on resurrection sunday. I know, I know, “blessed are they who, not seeing, believe.” It’s not that the believing is hard, necessarily; particularly not for me, having been blessed with a Lucy-like [relatively doubt-free] faith. It’s just that I sometimes wonder, am I even getting it right? What if the things I’m believing, my understanding of these things I cannot see, is all wrong? I’m reading The Shack. November 6, 2009. Call and Response: The Film. Saw this film last night. Can't help but pass it on. Hit "older posts" for my thoughts. Call and Response: Reflections. As with any presentation on an issue of justice, I was moved. It’s just a fact. I don’t know that ending slavery worldwide is going to become my driving passion, (how could it be, when I am already driven by so many others? But I will be an advocate when and where I am able, even if it just means telling others about this film. Now I have t...

September 26, 2009. A little bit of pumpkin spice. It's cold tonight at Starbucks. it's too cool to still have the air on, but we're in that tricky fall weather that makes it difficult to make that call every day. my pumpkin spice latte, though delectable, has long since ceased to warm my insides. i've just finished composing two essays for my application to westminster seminary. What, you say? What's that all about? Where i have been attending in philadelphia since arriving back to the city of brotherly...

January 17, 2009. Africa and israel and places that grip my heart. The Dark Continent seems impossibly out of reach. Though The Poisonwood Bible. Walk Live off the land. Share with your neighbors. Wear the same clothes. Really, does it matter? We know events and names and places, but have we seen them? Do I know people in Gaza who are running for bomb shelters, or people in Africa who are fighting for survival against all odds of disease, famine and governmental instability? http://rachelhosan.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
July 6, 2011. I've had the privilege over the past 9 months or so to be part of a group called the liberti arts collective. We're a hodge podge of people from my church. Who are creatives of one sort or another; some of us do so professionally, and others (like moi) just for fun. We've had a few shows now where we've displayed our creative labors, and it's been really good for me. I've long struggled to actually call myself an artist. And Autumn and Rachel. My project for our November photography show (i...

one pilgrim's progress.: August 2008
http://rachelhosan.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
August 27, 2008. I stand (or rather, this morning, sit) at the threshold of a new year; my last year. There is a certain sweetness to the knowledge that what I do, I do now for the last time. The last orientation at Storch, the last round of meeting new people, the last year of living in Wittlingen, the last rainy, fly-infested August in Germany. There is a sadness to it as well, and an anticipation. And, as often happens at the start of something new, I find myself reflecting on the past more earnestly.

November 21, 2008. Can we attribute it to universal truth that our humanistic society so vehemently protests? Indeed, it’s there, and it’s undeniable. And those of us who know the Story of the Ultimate Redemption of Mankind understand that these other stories we tell are mere shadows of what is more fully True. November 12, 2008. A good cafe on the place st. michel. My second trip through the louvre. We paid homage to the dear mona lissa, of course, and on the way i stopped to admire (though not nearly l...

February 11, 2010. In the city, snow brings camaraderie. Neighbors help each other shovel, or comment on the storm simply because we’ve both managed to show our face outside. Jaer’s corner grocery store is still open; we go in and out for necessities. I went just for cravings- coffee for me, and chocolate pudding for my sister. 8221; “does anyone know anyone who even has a sled? 8221; “where’s jess? Shouldn’t she be here? 8221; “how about we go back to my house for curry after we sled?

October 7, 2008. If you like walnuts and you are in germany any time soon, stop on by. we've got extras. October 3, 2008. Germans don't mess around with their pretzels. We made the boys try on lederhosen. actually, we didn't have to try too hard. they were pretty excited about it. Oktoberfest was a cultural experience, to be sure. We were entertained by lively and not-so-sober germans, irishmen, italians, frenchmen, and even a few ladies from new jersey. Work brings freedom." not exactly.
