Four Darks in Red. 2nd and 3rd grade artists were introduced to the work of Abstract Expressionist, Mark Rothko (1903 –1970). We compared and contrasted his color work with that of Josef Albers who was previously studied. Students quickly discovered his rectangular fields of color with soft edges.
