An attempt at bettering myself, and feeling good about it. Friday, July 2, 2010. If all your friends were jumping off a bridge. Probably not because that would just be stupid. But if all my friends were turning off their fridges, would I feel inspiered and try to follow suit? I have been reading about alot of people who have turned off their fridges, and I feel incredibly excited when I hear that, I may even dream about it a little bit, but just a little bit. :). Have a good weekend. I like to read.

MARRIED SKINNY (with three young children). An investigative journey through weight loss. Friday, May 29, 2009. Welcome new family member! Before anyone gets too excited, please understand that the new member is not a child—at 47 years old, I consider this new family member better than a child because I'm too old to take care of an infant! We're going to have to reconfigure a part of our kitchen to make it work, but we'll make it work 'as God is my witness! Thursday, May 28, 2009. Here's to loving yourse...

Yankee Girl Gets Fit. In search of health — and a waistline. To maximize muscle recovery and growth I try to get 130-150g of protein per day. These are some foods I’ve found that make it easier to hit that target.* Recipe sources linked where relevant. Beef jerky (or turkey jerkey). Add protein powder to oatmeal or Greek yogurt. Protein-formulated Rise bars taste and feel like real food. I strongly prefer them to a lot of other protein bars, whose texture I don’t like much. 1 lb lean ground turkey. If yo...

Barrett's Esophagus Blog: Central control of reflux; the Vagus nerve
http://barrettsesophagus.blogspot.com/2009/09/centrol-control-of-reflux-vagus-nerve.html
My Regimen for Barrett's Esophagus. Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Central control of reflux; the Vagus nerve. The body has two safeguards against reflux, the diaphragmatic sphincter and the lower esophageal sphincter. Both are supposed to remain shut unless you swallow, burp, or vomit, but sometimes they malfunction and cause reflux. Typically, there are two kinds of malfunctions: (i) transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations and (ii) weakness in one or both of the sphincters. Transient lower eso...

My Regimen for Barrett's Esophagus. Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Barrett's Esophagus Blog: Does Reflux Matter?
http://barrettsesophagus.blogspot.com/2009/10/does-reflux-matter.html
My Regimen for Barrett's Esophagus. Wednesday, October 7, 2009. Most cases of esophageal adenocarcinoma start with Barrett's esophagus and most cases of Barrett's esophagus start with reflux. Does it follow that stopping reflux can halt the cancerous progression of Barrett's esophagus? I'm not so sure. Having studied both sides of the debate, I suspect it's wise to suppress acid at least enough to control chronic inflammation. Unfortunately, there have been no placebo controlled trials on the efficac...
