As the winds picked up so did thoughts of having maybe bitten off more than I could chew and being unprepared for a potentially long and messy recovery. I had just closed on the house and less than two weeks later it was in the path of what would become the second-costliest hurricane in United States history. I tried to ride the storm out by cooking and counting my blessings. This experience has made me less cynical and more accepting of help.
