1988 Topps: 635th Place - James Steels
http://1988topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/635th-place-james-steels.html
Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. 635th Place - James Steels. James Steels" sounds like the perfect secret identity for a comic book hero. A last name of "Steals" would have been even better since he twice swiped 35 bases in a season in the minor leagues. Is a good indicator of why. I couldn't find much on Steels on the interwebs.hmm, maybe he is a super hero! Player of the year in 1984. I found a couple.

1993 Topps: #467 Lee Stevens
http://1993topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/467-lee-stevens.html
Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the first set I ever collected. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Lee Stevens is rocking a sweatshirt underneath his jersey, so I'm guessing it's pretty chilly wherever he is. (Cleveland? Maybe that accounts for the near-total lack of fans in the bleachers behind him. Mark Snipp" sounds like a Harry Potter character. He needs a more outlandish first name though. I'd suggest Maurelius Snipp. But never had a walkoff homer. On This Date in 1993:. August 13. Johnny Gaudrea...

1993 Topps: March 2015

Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the first set I ever collected. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. 396 Rich Sauveur (Gold). The piping down the sides of Rich Sauveur's pants is juuuuust a bit thinner than his stirrups, which is probably driving the type-A personalities among you crazy. If Topps' most recent career highlight for you is a seven-year-old minor league shutout, that strikes me as the definition of "damning with faint praise". 1 He debuted with the Pirates on July 1, 1986. On This Date in 1993:.

1993 Topps: #461 Steve Reed
http://1993topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/461-steve-reed.html
Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the first set I ever collected. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Steve Reed is lost in the inky black abyss. What does it take for an undrafted submarine-style pitcher to make it to the big leagues? Just five-plus seasons in the minors with a sub-2.00 ERA - including his 12.1 scoreless innings at AAA Colorado Springs in 1993, Reed had a career earned run average of 1.99 and 110 saves in 261 appearances in the minors. 2 Reed earned his first big-league save on July 11, 1993.

1993 Topps: #460 Randy Johnson
http://1993topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/460-randy-johnson.html
Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the first set I ever collected. Monday, August 3, 2015. I think the horizontal format was necessary in order to fit Randy Johnson's massive wingspan on the card. Later in his career, the Big Unit topped that 18-K performance three times, culminating in an MLB-record-tying 20 strikeouts against the Reds on May 8, 2001. 1 Johnson no-hit the Tigers on June 2, 1990. Scattering six walks. On May 18, 2004. On June 5, 1995. On This Date in 1993:. Labels: hall of famer.

Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Sunday, August 24, 2014. 665th Place - Calvin Schiraldi. My apologies to any Sox fans who just threw something at their computer screen. Rightly or wrongly, Schiraldi is a dirty word for many in New England. He was a key culprit in the 1986 World Series collapse. Despite flashes of brilliance. Early in his career, Schiraldi would retire by the age of 29. Saturday, August 23, 2014. 666th Place - Greg Booker.

1993 Topps: #463 Scott Aldred
http://1993topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/463-scott-aldred.html
Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the first set I ever collected. Thursday, August 6, 2015. I'd like to imagine that Scott Aldred is pitching to a raccoon and receiving signs from a grizzly bear in a catcher's mask. Aldred didn't even have particularly impressive minor league numbers. I wonder what it was that compelled the Rockies to tab him in the expansion draft. 1 Scott was a winner in his big league debut on September 9, 1990. On This Date in 1993:. Labels: last topps card. 1988 Topps: 636th Place - Robbie Wine
http://1988topps.blogspot.com/2015/08/636th-place-robbie-wine.html
Ranking and counting down all 792 baseball cards, from worst to best, in a mostly objective manner. Monday, August 3, 2015. 636th Place - Robbie Wine. I replied that I was here, and she asked if I went by Robert or a nickname of that. I don't know why, but I said, "Rob." I guess now that I was in a new city and a big-time third grader, I figured it was time to go with a more mature iteration. Grandma Bonnie was kind of crazy. Robbie Wine is the son of former big leaguer Bobby Wine. I'll throw a "gratuito...
