Raena's Sketch Journal: November 2010
http://raenassketchjournal.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 11, 2010. I'm not much into the quilting arts or knitting arts, or really, anything to do with sewing unless it is necessary in the scheme of things. (ie adjusting hems, making journal covers) I only went to the quilt festival because Shirley Levine. Was there and I wanted to meet her. But, I have to tell you.these aren't your grandmother's quilts! Yep, I did that again! But, I had all compliments and they were very nice, even though I was blocking the path a little! Picture me, teeter...

Tuesday, January 11, 2011. This one I painted for my mom for Christmas because she loves cherry blossoms :). I was waiting for a time when she would be gone for a long enough time for me to start painting it, but the thing is, the times she was gone long enough was usually when I was at school, so eventually I just told her that I was planning on painting her something and I needed her to disappear. lol :). I used mostly acrylics but the birds were made with chalk pastels. This one is titled Hope. Im sti...

Wednesday, July 28, 2010. EDM# 104 and An Idea for a Painting. And this is something I haven't done in a long time! EDM Challenge #104: Salt and Pepper shakers. In fact, I just turned myself into a liar. Because I recently commented on someone's blog that I don't do the EDM challenges anymore. (Not that they're bad or anything! I think I said that today, in fact! Where you don't really care to focus that hard? Just throw down some lines and let them be? That was me today. I just said, 'ah! They are still...

Raena's Sketch Journal: January 2011
http://raenassketchjournal.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 24, 2011. First post in 2011. This gal here I thought. Was from imagination. But, over on Yevgenia Watts blog, Watercolor Hands. I see a woman very similar(on the sidebar, three pictures down below her facebook icon) and I think I may have remembered it when I drew this. It isn't painted the same of course, but I can't help but see the influence. It is small: 1.5"x 2", watercolor and ballpoint pen. Every thing else I've done this month has been of the doodle-type. A lot is happening a...

I'd like to thank Shirley. For the information she has on her blog, and for the inspiration- her journals are so beautiful! Of Trumpetvine Travels for her instructions. This was much easier than I thought it would be! My book doesn't look great, but I learned tons my first time out! Remember the "improvise" I talked about?

Saturday, February 19, 2011. Breaking through the dry spell. Since the backyard is in that ugly stage it gets after dealing with a week of hard freezes, I picked the Diana bust off my desk to draw and carried all my supplies outside. This is modified contour in my Lamy Safari fountain pen with watercolor added. Limited palette of cadmium orange and pthalo blue. The colors on the scan aren't quite right, the background being more of a greenish blue. I read so many blogs where the artists do this all the t...

Tuesday, November 15, 2011. International Quilt Festival in Houston 2011. I recently attended the International Quilt Festival in Houston for the second year in a row. Not that I have even the remotest interest in quilting, but because I go to meet up with Shirley. And any other acquaintances from blogland that attend. This year I also met Melanie Testa. I also made new friends: Roz (not Stendahl, but I somehow didn't get her card so I don't have a link! And Judy Coates Perez. This one was done in that b...

Raena's Sketch Journal: Regarding Google+
http://raenassketchjournal.blogspot.com/2014/01/regarding-google.html
Wednesday, January 8, 2014. I could care less about him! Dwellyes, that one is great! I really only expected information on posts from the people I connected with. Perhaps you have some opinions on this? Is it a colossal time sponge? Or does it really make it easier to keep up with friends? And the best part of it all.I have so much more time for making art! I have decided that I will not be going back. No cable. No television. Life is so much better! It is a time sponge! Sucks the life right out of life!
