Saturday, February 13, 2010. Day 43 - Sword fighting. Here's a shot of me doing what I do best - cause trouble. This is me and son #2 Noah having a Nerf sword fight in Wal-Mart. It was a draw because we had to clear out for other shoppers, but let the record show that I got the most potentially fatal strikes in due to my longer reach and Jedi reflexes. Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Day 40 - The Old Bridge. Originally uploaded by mattguthrie. Today in one of my workshop sessions, we were given a tour of Smithfield, NC by Wingate Lassiter of the Johnston County Heritage Center. We learned quite a lot about the history of the town in a very short amount of time. This is one of only 2 remaining supports for the old bridge that was torn down in the '20's , replaced by a steel bridge that could handle two way traffic of automobiles. 2010 in 365 - A Photo Blog.

To start the 30 minute drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain. It is the highest mountain on the east coast at 1530 feet. The kids told us the night before that they wanted to get up to see it too so around 5:20. We woke them up and walked about 3 minutes from where we were parked to see the sun come up at 5:32. We knew it was going to be a long day and I wanted us to be agreeable instead of tired and cranky by the end of it. We hopped the 'T' back to the commuter train station, grabbed some dinner and boarded the train back to the FunV. Boston has been good to us but we are headed towards relaxation in Acadia. To get from Niagara Falls to Lake Placid, NY. We have been plagued with a squeaky fan belt since Acadia and in the back roads of the Adirondacks, we have added the check engine light to the mix. Obviously the FunV needs some work. Despite those problems, the drive into Lake Placid was very nice. National Parks we have visited.

To go to the top of Cadillac Mountain to watch the sun rise but when the alarm went off we couldn't make ourselves get up. I woke up at 7:15. Afterwards we drove south to the Jordan Pond House parking lot and hiked along the shore and then up a steep cliff to Bubble Rock and back. About a 3 mile hike all together. A two hour drive and we arrived in Springfield, MA at the Springfield Armory site. This was an impressive campus and Scott enjoyed looking at all of the guns. We waited around for the medals and then headed out of Lake Placid for Saratoga National Historical Park. We were later arriving there than we had hoped and has less time in the park than we wanted but upstate New York is complete for parks.
