2 Acres on Planet Earth

2 Acres on Planet Earth. The sometimes thought provoking, often chaotic ramblings and musings on life on my two acres here on planet Earth. Monday, March 7, 2011. The Rush of Spring and the Year of Travel. In Akumal Sur, Mexico (the Riviera Maya). This year we are planning to voyage into the interior of Mexico to visit Chichen Itza, the ancient Mayan ruins. The trip, one-way, is three hours so it will be a long day. But being one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. We'll also do an afternoon sailing o...

We have a half acre wooded lot and a small log cabin home. I LOVE hostas. I run several co-ops each year to buy hostas wholesale from growers. We currently have over 1,000 different varieties growing in our yard plus other shade tolerant plants. View my complete profile. Hand Made Gifts For The Home! 2 Acres on Planet Earth. Gardening with Queenie: Pulmonaria aka Lungwort

http://queenshostagarden.blogspot.com/2011/05/pulmonaria-aka-lungwort.html

Thursday, May 5, 2011. There are many varieties of Pulmonaria. It's an early spring bloomer, sending up flower stems first and blooming first. Then after blooming will send up a rosette of. Leaves, similiar to a hosta form. Some varieties are blue, some red, some pink and some, like 'Mrs. Moon' here, have both pink and blue flowers at the same time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Gardening with Queenie: June 2010

http://queenshostagarden.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 28, 2010. Some new flower beds Gary has been working on the past couple of weeks. He told me I was not to plant anything until he gave me the 'all clear'. Who? He's all done now and I can start to fill them up. This area actually gets a little sun too. Links to this post. Saturday, June 5, 2010. She's an older variety, but a big girl. Hosta Blue Angel can reach a mature width of. 6 feet with flower scapes reaching 4 feet. Links to this post. Thursday, June 3, 2010. Links to this post. The Ru...

Thursday, April 30, 2009. This is a double narcissus named 'Tahiti'. This is miniature narcissus 'Minnow'. I didn't realize they would be so small and so adorable when I planted them. They grow on stems about 6" tall. Links to this post. Monday, April 27, 2009. Links to this post. Links to this post. Sunday, April 26, 2009. Links to this post. Links to this post. Gardening with Queenie: May 2011

http://queenshostagarden.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 30, 2011. I should have taken a picture of this last year before I planted it. It's a wall planter. It's approximately 16 inches square and about 2 inches deep, and has shallow compartments which are tilted upward. I just finished 'refreshing' this one with some new plants. Many of these will probably become too. Large for their space here, but I like a full look to begin with and will thin the plants as needed. Links to this post. Sunday, May 15, 2011. Gardening with Queenie: September 2009

http://queenshostagarden.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 28, 2009. We got to take a short walk around an Antique Car Show held this weekend at the Pocono Race Track here. It was quite a big show, too much for us to see it all. Links to this post. Thursday, September 10, 2009. The hummingbird female may still be here - at least she was yesterday. She's been intrigued by a small ripe tomato on the plant outside the window. I've watched her buzz around that tomato. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010. And you can see the fence along the property line to keep the deer out of the yard. These photos were taken in late summer 07. Since then, I've been planting hostas and arisaema, daffy's, tiarellas and other plants along both sides. This year, I'll be adding more shade plants such as tricyrtis and epimediums, ligularia and brunnera. So, these are the 'before' pictures of Hosta Creek. And in a month or so, we'll start to see what it looks like this year. Links to this post.

Gardening with Queenie: Zonal Geraniums

http://queenshostagarden.blogspot.com/2011/05/zonal-geraniums.html

Friday, May 13, 2011. Zonal Geraniums are annuals. Some of my favorites stand out with banded or variegated foliage. I love variegated or interesting foliage. It makes for interesting and colorful plants, even when they are not in bloom. Geraniums can take full sun to just a bit of shade. They also make great hanging baskets. You can over winter them in the house or greenhouse, and propagate them by taking and rooting cuttings. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Cat In The Moon.

Homesteading on a little slice of heaven on the Chesapeake Bay. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. March 1, 2015. My chickens are desperate for spring, just like the rest of us. They’ve been stuck in their coop, either voluntarily or not, depending on how cold it is (and it’s been. For weeks upon weeks. All seven of them piled together in the dry dirt, flipping over on their sides as they kicked dirt over their backs, letting it pile up on them and run down between their feathers. Th...

2 Acres and some Volkswagens | Our Homestead Adventures

2 Acres and some Volkswagens. A Little Bit About Us. July 9, 2012 · 9:06 am. Making your own syrup for pancakes, waffles, french toast or icecream is really easy! Here’s my recipe for Blackberry Syrup. I use juice that’s left over from making jelly and it’s super easy, just 2 (or 3) ingredients and about 10 minutes of your time. Equal parts Blackberry Juice and Sugar – in my case, I had 3 cups of juice, so I used 3 cups of sugar. Using 3 cups juice and 3 cups sugar yielded about 5 1/2 cups syrup. Put the...

Wicking Garden Bed Frames. Alternative uses for frames. Wicking Garden Bed Frames. Wicking beds are low maintenance, low water usage gardens. Perfect for busy people who love growing their own veggies and flowers. The garden beds have a water reservoir underneath the soil layer and the plants are watered by the wicking action of water being pulled up through the soil straight to the roots where it’s needed. And of course the fact that they’re raised beds is also a bonus. We use recycled timber frames&#46...
