Read Write. Run. What the …? A kid’s take on end-of-grade testing. On June 2, 2014. Last year, my girl came home from school grumbling about the End-of-Grade testing that she andher fellow sixth-graders were enduring. This is the letter she wrote, which was sent to Arne Duncan, US Sec. of Education, and June Atkinson, State Superintendent of Education for NC. She got replies from both eventually, which we both appreciated, but neither reply was something a kid could get very fired up about. First of all,...

The story of a story}. Ruby could not say what part of the world was reflected most strongly in Renoir’s features; it was as if the features of the Americas, Africa and Asia had fought it out as the girl was being created, and none had been able to win a clear advantage. As father and daughter, they were now in uncharted territory, and he was caught up in the often-wrenching balancing act of being her father and protector, and yet giving her room to grow up. 039;Magic' Pinterest board. The story of a story}. Yes review … singular. An aspiring author is never supposed to say how much his/her kid loved his/her story. But I can say that. Here, I can crow proudly more than obnoxiously about how wonderful it was to see my 10-year-old daughter sitting in the back seat of the car (as we road-tripped to see family in Virginia) completely engrossed in my manuscript, getting annoyed when I would interrupt her to ask a question. What do you. I’m at a really exciting part, or It’s SO addictive!

The story of a story}. This is a bit about the imaginary ‘extended family’ and neighborhood I wish I could fly across country and visit:. Has spent 12 mostly happy years living with her mother, Aidan,. A costume design professor and costume designer for the University Theatre, and her father, Michael,. Zan’s best friends, twins Rembrandt and Chagall Scott,. Introverted but fiercely competitive, loves sports and painting equally; Chagall,. The newest addition to their informal family is Ruby Rosesmith,.

Cool Kids Read: All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
http://coolkidsreviews.blogspot.com/2015/02/all-bright-places-by-jennifer-niven.html
A place where kids and their parents can read about some great books, or suggest a great book for others to read. Now available in paperback. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I’ve spent a lot of time this week trying to sort out how I feel about this book but I can tell you one thing, there are lots of feels. LOTS of them. Lots of good, but also, lots of tough ones. It’s a perfect storm of feels all over the place. Paired for a school project, the two wander Indiana together, chronically interest...

Cool Kids Read: Gregor the Overlander Series: The Code of Claw by Suzanne Collins

A place where kids and their parents can read about some great books, or suggest a great book for others to read. Now available in paperback. Gregor the Overlander Series: The Code of Claw by Suzanne Collins. Make no mistake. Suzanne Collins' The Underland Chronicles are about war. The atrocities of war. The soul-crushing horrors of war. Which can be a little much for middle graders, except for the fact that this last installment wraps up the message so well. Now, dealing with his feelings about the war,...

Cool Kids Read: 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
http://coolkidsreviews.blogspot.com/2009/04/13-reasons-why-by-jay-asher.html
A place where kids and their parents can read about some great books, or suggest a great book for others to read. Now available in paperback. 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. I've struggled over the past week as to how I review this book. No question, 13 Reasons Why. Hannah Baker has left a detailed suicide note in the form of these tapes, and on them are her 13 reasons why she's decided to end her life. The people involved (each star in their own personal cassette side) are told pointedly by Hannah how ...
