Adventures of an Indian/Gringa ex-pat Mama in Oaxaca, Mexico. Vomit and Empty Tinacos →. Del Humo de Este Comal. May 2, 2014. Many years ago, before we had kids, Juan and I went to visit his parents in Guelatao. His mom had just added a room onto her house so we stayed the night. The next morning, she made us huevos al comal. (A comal is a flat disc made of pottery used for cooking.) It was my first comal experience, and I have to admit it passed me by without any appreciation. I was born and raised in N...

Adventures of an Indian/Gringa ex-pat Mama in Oaxaca, Mexico. Vomit and Empty Tinacos. Best Places to Visit in Mexico City with Young Kids. April 29, 2015. Although there are plenty of museums and activities all around the city, we found that the best area for families to stay is around the Bosque de Chapultepec. A friend had recommended an Airbnb in Lomas de Virreyes, just north of the Bosque, which is where we ended up lodging. It was fantastic! Https:/ www.airbnb.mx/rooms/1460721? At the bottom of the...

Adventures of an Indian/Gringa ex-pat Mama in Oaxaca, Mexico. Newer posts →. Born ‘Al Dente’. May 6, 2013. It’s Saturday morning, May 5th. I am 38 weeks pregnant and definitely feeling this pregnancy a whole lot more exhausting than the last one. I am completely ready–physically, mentally, and emotionally to have this baby. However, I am TERRIFIED that I will go into labor today. It’s the one. Why are they regular? Pia arrived shortly after Sofia had left. It was 1:20 am. She looked exhausted aft...Later...

As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world." -Virgina Woolf. Thursday, September 26, 2013. A shocking number of years ago, when I went to Mexico for the first time, my host family asked if they could call me "Tere." I said I'd prefer. Maybe I'm just old. But I feel like I'm also a little bit someone else. Someone who sometimes dreams in a language I didn't even understand back them. Someone who's done things so differently for so long that everything from Before se...I'm volun...

As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world." -Virgina Woolf. Monday, September 9, 2013. Opting in, opting out. I thought that maybe what I've been doing wrong is trying to follow my heart too much. Except maybe with fewer orgies). And that maybe, in order to ever have a chance at financial stability in the world we actually live in, I would have to opt into it and tell my hippie-dippy do-gooder little heart to shut the hell up. I want to live here! I've also been volunteer tea...

As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world." -Virgina Woolf. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. The Color of Chocolate. It's ironic but true that in Mexico, where the vast majority of people are not this color, this color is still known as "color carne": flesh color. Last week in Isaias' class, they were coloring paper dolls of their families. The teacher asked what color skin is, and the children chorused: "COLOR CARNE.". But Isaias said, "NO. Mi papito es de color.

As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world." -Virgina Woolf. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. For their fortieth wedding anniversary, el Don y la Doña both dye their graying hair a startling, shiny black. El Don looks small and fragile in his good white guayabera. His wife has a good three inches and twenty pounds on him; she’s solid and strong under her pink lace dress. Ibis is their extra, honorary son; they took him in when he was a lonely university student in a strange city.

We have had this conversation at least two dozen times. Ibis: I'm hungry. I'M SO HUNGRY. I haven't eaten ALL DAY. I'm going to die if I'm not eating something within five minutes because I'M SO INCREDIBLY HUNGRY OH MY GOD. What food is there? Ibis: Are there any tortillas? Ibis: I'm not really that hungry. As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world." -Virgina Woolf. Wednesday, April 3, 2013. In La Colonia nothing seems to change. The generations slowly shift, but today’s 18-year-olds cook over wood fires and have too many babies, just like their great-grandmothers did. There’s no cell phone signal—there’s one phone in town, in the centro;. If you get a call, they announce it over the loudspeaker and you run. Everything revolves around corn. As a woman I have no country. As a woman my country is the whole world." -Virgina Woolf. Wednesday, January 30, 2013. It’s early evening, and the sunlight sifts between the hills in golden sheets. In a field of long grass, some horses are grazing: one spotted, one gray, one white. And on the white horse’s back, a white egret is perched. The curve of its neck a question with no answer but this valley, sliced by light. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. I'm Better in Real Life.

2kidsand1mom | REAL mommy blog from a REAL mommy!
Welcome to my CRAZY world! REAL mommy blog from a REAL mommy! To “leash” or not to “leash”….That is the question! June 20, 2014. I was so against baby leashes back before I had my first son. In my head I felt like it was treating your child like a pet. I would see parents in public with their kids on leashes and yes I will admit I did judge them. How could they do that to their child? We are humans not animals! I would never do that! Well after having my second son I had a change of heart. May 20, 2014.
