Ali M Demirel was asked by La Boite – Event Design. To design the stage for Tasaki Japan. S 40th birthday event in Tokyo on May 2014. Demirel designed an architectural installation which required a custom mapping and 3D modeling for visual design and performance. Thomas Van Ta made a custom FX and visual programming for this specific installation. That way, the design process and performance was handled by using 2V-P.

What is Quartz Composer? Quartz Composer is a node-based visual programming language and a developer environment provided as part of the Graphic Tools extension of XCode in OSX. It is meant for processing graphical data. QC brings together a rich set of graphical and non-graphical technologies, including Quartz 2D, Core Image, OpenGL, QuickTime, MIDI, GLSL, JavaScript, OpenCL or XML. It was originally developed by Pierre-Olivier Latour under the name PixelShox Studio. Apple’s QC User Guide.

Supershape | 2V-P

Created by Pascal Lesport. Edited for live performance by Ali M. Demirel. Supershapes (Superformula) in 2D are generalisations of the superellipse used to describe complex curves. 3D supershapes are obtained by spherical products of two 2D supershapes. The composition morphs between several 3D shapes. Instead of drawing an isosurface, the vertices are displayed individually as spheres, then a custom X-Ray lighting shader is applied. Fractal | 2V-P

Created by Pascal Lesport. Edited for live performance by Ali M. Demirel. 8220;2V-P Fractals” , is based on the Menger sponge fractal object, applied to spheres instead of cubes. This the generalisation in 3D of the Cantor set, a set of points created by repeatedly deleting the open middle thirds of a set of line segments. Volume calculations are implemented through a GLSL Shader, using a ray-tracing algorithm.
