February | 2010 | Cycle-ogy 101 Among the Asian Tigers

Cycle-ogy 101 Among the Asian Tigers. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Archive for February, 2010. A spoke of bad luck. February 24, 2010. Now it might not sound like much but with the way my wheel was rolling I had to disconnect my rear brake, not something I was too keen on after what we had just ridden down. There was a hotel a few km down the road so we rode there slowly and I investigated my options for getting to Prachuap Khiri Khan, a small city about 60km further where hopefully they could ...

Or just conspiring against us, although maybe my inevitable return to Chiang Mai is just part of some divine plan. It was around this point that it became clear that some sort of higher power was drawing us both back to Chiang Mai, and frankly, I wasn’t about to resist. Asia On Rubber: november 2009
http://asiaonrubber.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Fredag 13 november 2009. How do you decide where to go? I don’t know. I want to go everywhere and I’ve always been a bit disappointed about not yet having been there. But I’m still young. Maybe I should apply for a job to drive the Google Car. Courtesy of the University of Texas Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin. Torsdag 12 november 2009. 2 The Uplifting Planning. So I’ll give it a try, though I am not as nervous as I am excited. My D200 will do. Laptop? Bought one. When I’m planning...My life...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Newer posts →. Tuesday, March 9 – Yes, “Chris in Spain” is still active. March 9, 2010. Four and a half months into my stay, my roommates and I have yet to pay a single utility bill. If I can find my contract I’m going to see if I’m actually on the hook for them or not. Skipping town (continent, that is) is definitely being entertained. Tuesday, February 23 – Carnival, etc. February 23, 2010. But I do have some good stuff today. Although this schedule deprived us of the...
Asia On Rubber: mars 2010
http://asiaonrubber.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tisdag 30 mars 2010. 36 It’s hard work to get to Sin City. The climbs turned out to be the kind of climb that starts but never ends. Laos isn’t exactly a flat country, but riding a steep uphill for hours and hours and you start to curse whoever planned the road. I can see the valley far down below, surely it must be possible to put the road down there? I had the road mostly to myself, however, just occasionally passed by trucks and tourist busses. Cycling around the world for charity. Perhaps it is due t...
Asia On Rubber: december 2009
http://asiaonrubber.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Tisdag 8 december 2009. The one and only useful thing I learned in the army, besides digging trenches, was how to pack a bag. You’d think you would learn more than that in ten months, but apparently not. I always travel light and I am usually the one with weight to spare, something my fellow travellers quickly abuses. You wouldn’t believe what I have hauled over the Atlantic Ocean (including a porcelain dinner set). Nothing illegal though. An HP NC2230S laptop and a lot of cables. 2 wheels 1 fork.
Asia On Rubber: januari 2010
http://asiaonrubber.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Lördag 30 januari 2010. I am way behind schedule. Every place seems to keep me a little bit longer than initially planned and taking the ferry from Penang to Langkawi saves me two days of riding. It’s only cheating if it is a competition (that is my official excuse). I ran into my local “friend” again. He claimed he had been waiting for me outside my hostel for several hours last night, and wondered why I never called. Gee, I don’t know! What’s your name, again? Some people are crazier than others. I am ...

Lördag 1 maj 2010. 43 Wrapping things up. The rain was pouring down outside the bus to KL, while I was sitting in a comfortable leather recliner with massage functions watching the road pass by. I couldn’t help thinking about how much I rather would be out there on the shoulder riding a bicycle. Ice in the beer helps a lot. Petronas Towers as seen from KL Tower. The original and best. Asia On Rubber: april 2010
http://asiaonrubber.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Tisdag 27 april 2010. Even though it has been well over a decade since we last met, it felt like it was just nine years ago and we immediately got along. Hong Kong felt like a blend of New York and San Francisco, at least their respective Chinatowns, and I fell in love with the city right away. It helps when you are guided through the bar areas by a local who, by a coincidence, also likes to drink beer. Gambling is not how I’ll be rich, and I already knew that from years of Black Jack losses. I managed t...

Asia On Rubber: 1. The Depressing Introduction
http://asiaonrubber.blogspot.com/2009/11/introduction.html
Måndag 9 november 2009. 1 The Depressing Introduction. What would you do if you have nothing left? What would you do when the only possible option, except biting the bullet, is to leave everything and start over? What would you do when the goddamn pills don’t work? You could turn the question around and ask yourself “If I could do anything, what would I do? I was surfing the nets at work (I LOVE my job) when I stumbled upon this video. I mean, how hard can it be? It’s not like I can’t walk! A couple who ...

Two wheels, one meal
Two wheels, one meal. June 9, 2010. Welcome to my first-ever post! To get me into the swing of things, Saltnpepper agreed to meet on the first non-rainy day we had seen for weeks. Destination was set for the midway point between Marrickville and Glebe, at café. Barmuda in Newtown (283 Australia Street). I’ll confess, this is not my first visit to Barmuda – I’ve been there a number of times before. Mainly due to their yummy gluten-free potato stack:. As well as many other lunch things to feast on. (I'...
