Testing using SoapUI property values, SOAP response capture and no GUI. I recently had to analyse the performance of a web service that can be used to upload documents into a database, SoapUI was the natural choice for this but I didn't want to run it from my laptop so I could avoid network transfer times interfering with my results. This meant I had to run SoapUI directly on the server where the web service was running. Latest JodaTime and WebLogic incompatibility, missing methods. A while back I've sho...

SoapUI failing to create projects for web services using JAXB generated objects as return values. I've been working on moving all of our services at work away from WSDL first and towards the JWS file approach. I think that is a much cleaner way of going about writing web services, it certainly is a lot quicker. I've even written a post previously that shows an example build system. Weblogic task to build JWS file base services. Lets see what SoapUI was reporting. Some errors looked like this. Specifically...

Replacing the CF light tube for LEDs in my AquaStyle 380 aquarium. We've had our AquaStyle 380 aquarium for some time now and overall it's a great fish tank, however during the warmer months it has one big drawback and that is the CF tube that's used to light it up heats up a fair amount. This makes it difficult to regulate water temperature when it's already hot and of course can and has resulted in fish dying. Externalising the OdroidXU4 network port. Waiting on multiple Future workers on a ThreadPoolExecutor. I've been using the Java Future interface extensively. It's simple to implement and all you need is a ThreadPoolExecutor to run your code in a Thread. There is no messy thread handling, it's all taken care of for you. So what happens if you are running multiple Future tasks and have to wait for all of them to complete before you continue processing their results? Read on to see my approach. Assembling a Nixie Clock - Sven DCF / GPS Nixie clock kit. I got the Sven DCF / GPS Nixie clock kit. For my birthday. This is a kit that comes with all the components including the PCB and the Nixie tubes. It doesn't have a power supply, so an external one is needed. A good soldering iron is needed to assemble this, something with temperature control is probably best. A clamp and magnifying glass can also be handy, I used the clamps to hold the PCB in place while soldering. Assembling the tube holder.
