Monday, August 31, 2009. Week 6 - Communities and Public Relations. Chapter 13 by Kate Fitch. This chapter I think really reflect on what exactly happening now a days in the community. Many organisations involving the community to participate in their PR campaign especially the government and health and wellbeing organisations. It's a simple chapter but I guess I was too occupied preparing for my debate I wasn't concentrating enough. After reading the chapter twice, it becoming clearer. Week 5 - Ethics.

Before I took this course, my understanding of Public Relations (PR) was about a company or a person's reputation in the public eye. And the role of a PR person is to be responsible for controlling that image, so that the public will always see the positive side. But after I finished this weeks reading, I understand that it is actually a lot more than that.

Issuing media releases is a PR role to make sure the media get news materials. These media releases have to be accurate in answering six basic news questions: Who? Otherwise it'll look uninteresting and ends up in the bin or shame file of newsroom. So it is important for PR people to acknowledge themselves with PR writing skills.
