The Learning Hourglass: June 2014
http://thelearninghourglass.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Our daughter-in-law is starting to homeschool our 4-year-old granddaughter. She's very excited and eager to start to homeschool preschool. This year two of our kids became drivers, started college classes and part-time jobs. The changes have meant we've had to adjust in different ways. We've had to be more mindful of our schedules. W. What about your family? Some of you may just be starting out, but some may have older kids. What brings your family together, if you have older ones? Links to this post.

The Learning Hourglass: Homeschool Vacation
http://thelearninghourglass.blogspot.com/2014/09/homeschool-vacation.html
But I'm not complaining. Do we need a reason for a vacation at the beginning of our homeschool year? What's a vacation for a homeschooling family without getting in some educational fun? My daughters were enthralled with the Laser Harp. No strings. Rather than plucking strings to produce sound, we plucked laser beams, which lit up in beautiful colors. Another favorite was the Anatomy Challenge, which was actually a giant Operation game. Remember those? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Learning may see...

The Learning Hourglass: Christmas At Our House
http://thelearninghourglass.blogspot.com/2014/12/christmas-at-our-house.html
Christmas At Our House. That vacation I told you about last week.well, I came home to a surprise from my husband. Kitchen renovation! So what's the bad part? It's right before Christmas and our house is a mess. Our entire pantry, cookware and silverware.everything in our kitchen is now on our dining room table-slash-work table. Yes, that's where I work and that's where the kids do their school work. Oh, and it's also where we eat. Haha! See our Christmas tree over there in the corner? I still have a few ...

The Learning Hourglass: Disclosure
http://thelearninghourglass.blogspot.com/p/disclosures.html
Welcome to my blog. I'd like to disclose that I really am a mom of four. One attended public school and the last three I homeschool. I really do have a daughter with Down syndrome and homeschool her. We started using Time4Learning in 2008, and near the end of 2012 I became a part-time contractor for Time4Learning and Time4Writing. I help them with marketing, forum moderation, and online promotion. What does all of that mean? I want to make sure that we revisit that whole " to be clear. I have had moments...

The Learning Hourglass: April 2014

What To Do With Homechool Used Curriculum. Well, to tell you the truth, I wasn't given an option. You see, I've had some boxes of books sitting in the garage (my husband's man cave) and my husband said I need to do something with these boxes. Normally I take things I don't use or need to the local Goodwill store or give it away to friends, but what to do with used curriculum? Using the word list from the book she's been reading this week. But I'd love to hear what you all do with your used curriculum!

Summer Courses and Summer Lessons. My daughter's homeschool graduation ceremony and party are both this weekend. I'm looking forward to this week being over because it will mean some free time for me. Finally! This is an online course with a certified teacher. I'm thinking it will be like a writing tutor. I've been wanting to try this writing course out for him and summer is the perfect time for it. Our youngest daughter we always school year-round because to homeschool Down syndrome. The Learning Hourglass: Homeschooling in the Midst of Chaos
http://thelearninghourglass.blogspot.com/2015/02/homeschooling-in-midst-of-chaos.html
Homeschooling in the Midst of Chaos. My house is a total wreck. I didn't realize how long it's been since my husband started renovations until I read one of my previous blog posts! When a friend asked me about it last night, I told her we started the first week of January. Now I'm reminded by my blog that it was just after Thanksgiving! It all started with just making the opening to the kitchen wider, and that progressed into tiling the whole house (except the bedrooms). Fridays is a great day for outdoo...

Dyslexia and Sequential Spelling
http://www.mormonhomeschool.org/2011/10/dyslexia-and-sequential-spelling.html
Eve Out of The Garden. Dyslexia and Sequential Spelling. Is spelling starting to make you crazy with your dyslexic child? Is a spelling program made for Dyslexics. We used this program during elementary school and I can highly recommend it. My son learned not only how to spell, but he became an excellant reader and speller. We tried traditional programs and they did not work. (My other four kids didn't have dyslexia, but he spells as good as they do now.). Is a good starting point. See more videos here.
