The Washington University Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery (WUIMIS) Biomaterials Lab has four 3D printers capable of producing medical/surgical modeling (via direct CT image modeling), prosthetic forearms (including hands) that are robotically operated, research equipment and custom parts for research.

Our team has produced models for Washington University Surgeons including:. Craniofacial for facial trauma, craniosynostosis, orbital dysmorphology, and tumors. Pediatric cardiology for tetralogy of fallot. Nephrology for tumors (see blog. Patient imaging – CT/MRI. Doctor and Technician go over the plan for the model: specifying anatomy and printing material properties including color, rigidity/flexibility, or sterilizability. Upon approval the part is printed. Model delivered to physician.
