Information about B-24 Serial # 42-78127, which I believe to be the one that crashed off of Corsica on July 5, 1944. Sunday, August 22, 2010. Sgt John James Kristan. Dad was the top turret gunner on B-24 42-78127. Thanks to David Korkuc. He lived for 55 years. After the plane went down July 5, 1944. He considered each day after the crash to be a bonus day. He would have been 89 today. We miss you, Dad. I wouldn't have been sure that picture was Dad if this clipping weren't taped to the photo holder.

Today is the anniversary of the final flight of Dad's B-24. Here are the pictures that Dominique sent to me:. The beach at Argentella. A wider view of the beach, with added B-24. Propellers in a picnic area near the beach, presumably from 42-78127. It's wonderful that you're going to Corsica. It's a dream of mine to be able to make that trip one day.

Sunday, July 05, 2015. Dad's B-24 crashed just off the beach at Argentella, Corsica, France, on the way back from a bombing run over Toulon 71 years ago today. Dad and three others survived out of the ten-man crew. Dad's survival was due to a rescue by David Korkuc, the tail gunner, who pulled him from the wreckage before it sank. I'm glad Dad got so many bonus years. I wonder how often he thought of his crewmates who didn't make it. Link: 42-78127.blogspot.com. Which has my research on Dad's last mission.
