It has been one of those April days that erase every moment spent pinned behind glass watching the gray clouds weep. For me, April itself does this for the rest of the year. It thaws what has been cold, and the words of poems break through our brown earth, newly green. I hope you have enjoyed this year’s garden. Until next year. Beauty is not enough.

What are we really to do after the first twenty-four hours of rain but resign ourselves finding beauty in the infinite layers of gray? So, I spend the day looking out the window at nature’s equivalent of sensible, overhead fluorescent lighting and making sure water is not sneaking in through the windows all of my children have surreptitiously cracked open so they can indulge in the petrichor of the world all around.
