24F – Manhunt | The 52nd Floor
https://52ndfloor.wordpress.com/2008/12/09/24f-manhunt
A short story a week for a year. 24F – Manhunt. December 9, 2008. They keep asking me questions. They ask me questions because they’re looking for my dad. That’s why they’ve brought me here. They’re worried about him. They took me out of school. There was a panic, and lots of angry faces. And I got asked to come along and help them out. I didn’t want to go, but they really, really wanted me to go with them, my teacher, and the principal, and the detective. They don’t say it, but I know they think he’s a ...

A short story a week for a year. Thought I’d use this section of the site to keep track of some of the stories that people seem to respond to the most. So far, the list includes:. So if you’re new to the site, you might want to start and have a look there. Or you could just read whatever random thing I’ve posted this week. I’ll add more to this list based on feedback and comments I get, so let me know if there’s anything you like (or hate). Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
28F – Inspiration | The 52nd Floor
https://52ndfloor.wordpress.com/2009/07/25/28f-inspiration
A short story a week for a year. 28F – Inspiration. July 25, 2009. He cowers in the front row. To his left and right there are noises, hooting, people on their feet. On stage, a lone figure stands amidst a thin dusting of dry-ice smoke. Tall. Upright. A saint with a microphone. A guru. A teacher. A bringer of words of wisdom. I want you to stand up! A spotlight peers down into his row, settling on his chair, his shrinking head. He raises a feeble hand to ward off the light, the attention. There are aides...
25F – Train | The 52nd Floor
https://52ndfloor.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/25f-train
A short story a week for a year. 25F – Train. January 10, 2009. He looked down the rows of blue seats, tagged and cut sporadically, some draped in unwanted papers that shuffled slightly with the heavy rhythm of the train. To his left, someone had scratched deadshit into the glass. He was too tired to argue. And then went out. The lights stuttered back on, bright and welcoming. There was a sustained electrical buzz, followed by a loud crack, and the lights were gone again. He glanced up at the window.

Creative thinking for digital. Lies, Damn Lies and Research. Reading Daytum’s fine print. September 20, 2010. I just completed a Master Class with the Hyper Island. Crew here in Sydney – something I would highly recommend for anyone in the industry, whether from a digital background or not. Anyways, needless to say having a weekend to think about what we do all day and where things might be heading has given me a lot of grist for the blog mill. Which I’ll be looking to dip into real soon.
Twenty Ten | otsblog
https://otsblog.wordpress.com/2010/02/04/twenty-ten
Creative thinking for digital. February 4, 2010. Now that the dust has settled from the beginning of the year (and with one twelfth of it already done) I’ve finally had a chance to think about the year ahead, and find a couple of things to concentrate on. Not a new years resolution or anything, but what better time to look at things from a bigger picture point of view? So here’s three things I’ve decided to concentrate on this year:. Should be interesting. Wish me luck. Feed for this Entry. Very nice ots...

Creative thinking for digital. July 12, 2009. Yes, its been a little quiet on here for quite a while. Here’s why:. 1) Went on a ten day technology-free holiday. 2) Came back in the middle of a large project. Holiday planned before project. You know how it is. 3) Then moved house. 4) And moved office. Throw in a bit of writer’s block, and you have a whole mess of quiet on both this blog and my short fiction project. Them back on track first. A different take on advertising… condoms. February 25, 2009.
Change at Cannes | otsblog

Creative thinking for digital. July 12, 2009. There’s been a post discussing the recent Cannes Cyber Lion Grand Prix Winner – the “Best Job in the World” campaign by Cummins Nitro. Asking whether the campaign, as good as it is, really represents the most innovative digital thinking. Or whether its just a great idea that happens to live in the digital space. But I think there’s another reason why the Best Job in the World had the run that it did. Everyone had heard of it. And not just from a...You are com...

Creative thinking for digital. Reading Daytum’s fine print. February 1, 2011. It being the start of a new year I’m currently overdosing on optimism when it comes to all my various side projects (exercise, writing, everything else I always run out of time for). So I decided it would be a good time to start keeping track of how well I was managing to keep up with things. And that’s when I stumbled on Daytum. Which is nicely designed but a little on the flaky side. Daytum iPhone app interface. The good news...

Creative thinking for digital. Lies, Damn Lies and Research. February 14, 2010. When you’re working on ideas, you want them to be amazing. Off the chart. To give the world some staggering thing it has never seen before. But brilliant ideas are often built from things that for the most part seem to be quite ordinary. Sometimes a simple twist is enough to elevate it from something familiar to something genius. Over the years, I’ve burnt a lot of energy searching for something completely new, out of l...
Mirrors | otsblog

Creative thinking for digital. September 27, 2009. Most people are fascinated with anything that suggests it will tell them something about themselves. You don’t really need to look much further for evidence of this than the seemingly endless facebook character quizzes that tell you which particular character of a particular show/movie/book/whatever you are most like. Did a similar trick by taking twitter feeds and turning them into car recommendations:. But I couldn’t help noticing how interested ...

52nd City Magazine St. Louis
Omas, Andrea, and Stefene at the 5th Annual Kick Ass Awards. Photo by Brandyn Jones. The rumors are true. We will no longer be publishing print editions of 52nd City Magazine. Producing the quarterly proved to be more costly and time consuming than we ever expected. It was rewarding, yet exhausting. Over the last three years we’ve had the support and encouragement of some truly loyal advertisers. So don’t be glum. Change is good. Everybody’s saying so. Not only am I finishing this chapter, but I’m finishing the book that many of you lovely people contributed to by way of the Kickstarter. Thanks again for that! Y’all are the best! July 12, 2013.
