http://alexacampbell.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 7, 2013. I've now completed my 3 week rotation in anesthesia. Also, I am now about 1/4 of the way done with my senior year! It's gone by pretty fast and I have learned a lot. I was very nervous a the beginning of the anesthesia rotation and by the end I was able to relax and enjoy it. Me getting ready to induce my patient for a surgical procedure. The induction room where animals would be prepared for surgery. Large animal anesthesia machine. Big animals require big tubes! A Christmas...

Sunday, January 26, 2014. I meant to get a group picture but it didn't happen. ):. On a different note. I passed the NAVLE! I am one step closer to becoming a DVM. Now all that stands in my way are a few more rotations, my Senior paper and presentation, and graduation. I also will begin searching for a job back in Utah somewhere. Scrubbing in for surgery on the last day = 5 cat spays, 1 rabbit neuter, 1 dog spay. Photo courtesy Carissa Jones). A friend in the student lounge. Saturday, January 18, 2014.

Alexa's blog: June 2013
http://alexacampbell.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 14, 2013. Revival of the Blog. Yes, it has been a while since I've updated my blog. I've debated whether or not to stop blogging altogether since there are other things like facebook and instagram that are more of an instant blog. But, I decided recently that I wanted to continue my blog through my senior year of vet school. Green Coveralls for working with large animals like horses and cows. White lab coat for working with small animals like dogs and cats. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Harry ...

Alexa's blog: November 2013
http://alexacampbell.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 3, 2013. Tonight is my last night of a 2 week long rotation of overnight shifts. The first week was in the large animal hospital and the second week was in the small animal ICU. I feel like I've been living in an alternate reality though it has gotten easier as time as gone on. What may be difficult now is switching back to a regular schedule for my next rotation which starts on Monday. First night on Large Animal Overnights. The Large Animal Hospital. Halloween was weird this year becau...

Alexa's blog: December 2013
http://alexacampbell.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Last week I had a week of small animal dentistry. Well it actually ended up being only 4 days due to the 8 inches of snow and the subsequent snow day on Monday. That was an adventure because snow plows are scarce in Corvallis. This was my first elective rotation and it was graded pass fail. The others actually have a letter grade associated with them. Before dental cleaning - DOG. Before dental cleaning - CAT. After dental cleaning and premolar extraction. I enjoyed getting ...

Alexa's blog: Preceptorship in Utah
http://alexacampbell.blogspot.com/2014/04/preceptorship-in-utah.html
Monday, April 21, 2014. While in Utah I also spent a fair amount of time interviewing at a few veterinary hospitals. It has been a stressful process because I want to find the right fit for me as a new graduate. After much deliberation I think I've figured out where I'll be practicing veterinary medicine after I graduate in June. Stay tuned for this announcement in the coming weeks. :). Monday, April 28, 2014. A Job and Exotic Pet Elective. One afternoon we had a hands on lab where a local pet store owner/breeder came in and passed around several different amphibian and reptile species which we were able to handle. It was pretty awesome! My favorites were the veiled chameleons and the whites tree frog. There were several types of lizards, turtles, and snakes that were also passed around. I got a job! Sunday, July 28, 2013. Friday was my last day of a 3 week rotation in Portland at the Oregon Humane Society (OHS). I can't believe how fast it went by and how much I learned and experienced while I was there. I was very impressed with the facility and the doctors and staff that I worked with. First here's a little tour of the general facility with pictures:. The view from the front. Where I spent the majority of my time in the shelter. Entrance to the pet cemetery. For those who don't know, a spay is an ...

Tuesday, March 25, 2014. RVP (Rural Veterinary Practice). Last week I finished up another month long rotation. The rotation was RVP or Rural Veterinary Practice which involved going on farm calls! At times I felt like I was in a James Herriot novel as we would go to various farms and treat the animals with supplies from our vehicle like portable ultrasound and x-ray. My skin closure on a goat C-section. On the equine service I got to perform equine dentals which involved using instruments (basically powe...
