Of the high-minded Germans, but liberty as the right to be cussedly, bloody-mindedly oneself. ‘John is John,’ as Tony Blair wryly murmured of John Prescott when he punched a demonstrator, suggests something of this tautological quality. Now, as yet another Committee reports on how the Commons could be reformed, ePolitix has just published his stark, bitter reflection, asking whether we need (or deserve) a parliament at all.”.

183; blog · articles. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. What we learned in Kyoto. A couple of days riding in and around Kyoto reversed views on cycling I have formed over decades. Also, it showed me the part cycling might play in a more civil and liveable London. Cycling works as well in Kyoto as it does in Copenhagen or Holland, but in different ways. (Not just that Japanese drive on the left as we do.) Londoners might usefully adopt some of its practices. The second difference to strike is that contraflow riding...

The public approves of gentle, healthy, eco-friendly cycling, but it hates cyclists – scofflaws who jump lights, ride on footways and cycle at night without lights. Why change the rules in favour of people who break them anyway? And we need to press for serious change. Sunday, June 21, 2009. Ten days ago I needed a way of slicing arrays so I asked for advice on cll. Denizens provided me with reference to some nice libraries like Tamas Papp. MAKE-ARRAY-SLICE. However it was Pascal J. Bourguignon. That pushed my limits. Here's my code. Cleared a little bit and using a suit object instead of array for easier printing. For foo being 2 dimensional array (2 5). Slice foo 1 2). Aref foo 1 2). However for every subscript that's not an integer:. Slice foo 1 t). Slice foo t 4).

In […] a democracy, the ordinary citizen is effectively a king, but a king in a constitutional democracy, a king whose powers are merely formal, whose function is to sign measures proposed by the executive. The problem of democratic legitimacy is homologous to the problem of constitutional democracy: how to protect the dignity of the king? How to make it seem that the king effectively decides, when we all know this is not true?
