Four Hills of Squash. Tuesday, August 26, 2014. The Kitchen Garden In Late August. There's very little bare dirt in the kitchen garden these days. The Winter Squash have claimed every last open space, making my daily watering routine a challenge. All of the tomatoes, with the exception of the " Bloody Butcher". Plant, have reached the top of the two-tier towers and are still growing. The " Heavenly Blue". I was able to harvest the first eight " Bumblebee. The " Black Plum". Pole bean has made a credible ...

Four Hills of Squash: First 60 degree Day of the Year - and a Record
http://4hillsofsquash.blogspot.com/2015/01/first-60-degree-day-of-year-and-record.html
Four Hills of Squash. Saturday, January 24, 2015. First 60 degree Day of the Year - and a Record. I caught on film the tail-end of an amazing, if slightly worrisome day. Today, while the East Coast turned white under a winter storm watch, we enjoyed sunny blue skies and a high of 68 degrees! Yes 68 degrees. That broke an 80 year old record. foodstance: Another Update
http://foodstance.blogspot.com/2014/03/another-update.html
A blog about gardening, food and family. Friday, March 28, 2014. The last week has been a busy one which is why I opted not to post. I have been trying to minimize the "to-do" list and have been steadily knocking out the "must-do" list. Between taxes, dentist appointments, school functions and studying in preparation for a big test coming up, the little free time I've had has been devoted to family time. In the interim, we have had snow again. Thank you again, Ilene! Also called tree onions, they're neat...

A blog about gardening, food and family. Wednesday, April 9, 2014. My life has been filled with a blur of these lately:. Let me be perfectly honest. I am horrible at math. Oh, don't misunderstand me - I can convert cups to ounces, figure a total, draw up a budget that actually works, tip a waiter, figure out the perimeter of my garden bed, double or reduce a recipe and so on. I've struggled with it but then the "ah-ha! I will get to it in the near future. My husband got this bundle of 8 foot stakes from ...

A blog about gardening, food and family. Monday, February 24, 2014. Chicken pot pie is a meal we usually reserve for Sunday. With the prep work involved, it usually doesn't cut it for a weeknight dinner. We got lucky yesterday and had a nice reprieve from the cold. Temperatures got into the mid-sixties so we opted to spend the day outside and fire up the grill. Chicken Pot Pie recipe. 15 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes. 3 carrots, sliced*. 2 celery stalks, sliced*. Meanwhile, in a h...
