Participating in God's Life. The Preacher's Book Club. Friday, January 27, 2012. Bear with me just trying to get the hang of this blogging thing. Never blogged in my life. So, John, one question. How long do we plan to take to read this book? OK, I lied more than one question. Most book clubs read a book a month or a book every other month. Are we going to do that? Or go at our own pace? I started reading last night. We'll see. Links to this post. Thursday, January 26, 2012. Links to this post.

Participating in God's Life: The Spiritual Journey Today (Paraphrase/Main Points)
http://lcofcbooks.blogspot.com/2012/02/spiritual-journey-today-paraphrasemain.html
Participating in God's Life. The Preacher's Book Club. Monday, February 6, 2012. The Spiritual Journey Today (Paraphrase/Main Points). There is a huge spiritual hunger that is manifesting today that traditional institutional Christianity can not fulfill. Humanity is recognizing that all life is at root spiritual,. That everything we see is formed and sustained by what we cannot see. To fill the void our authors have offered the cause: The collapse of the brass heaven. Can't wait to read on! That may be h...

Participating in God's Life. The Preacher's Book Club. Friday, February 10, 2012. Faith vs. Manmade philosophy (Pgs 35-44). The struggle between Robert Richardson and Tolbert Fanning is similar to the differences between our nation's Founding Fathers and Thomas Payne (Paine? Payne was ostricized by the Founding Fathers to a man, and he wasn't even allowed to be buried with any public notoriety. He was buried in some obscure cow pasture! Richardson rightly asserts that this view "chilled Spiritual vitalit...

Participating in God's Life: Ch 1: The Spiritual Journey Today

Participating in God's Life. The Preacher's Book Club. Monday, January 30, 2012. Ch 1: The Spiritual Journey Today. Well, I just typed up a bunch, and then accidentally deleted, so hope I can remember what I wrote. I am a bit overwhelmed with life right now, so decided to put God first and read the first chapter of our book. I read page 32 several times, and these sentences jumped out at me. 1/31/12, 11:13 PM. That part is totally true. I think we, the Church of Christ, were so concerned about being ...

Participating in God's Life: Dirt Philosophy
http://lcofcbooks.blogspot.com/2012/02/dirt-philosophy.html
Participating in God's Life. The Preacher's Book Club. Thursday, February 16, 2012. One of the things that stands out to me in my recent reading is from chapter four. In discussing the less traveled path of our tradition, the path that Richardson and a few others traveled, the authors list several roadblocks, including (1) Rejection of Spiritual Experience (2) Intellectualism, and (3) Suppression of the Affections. These suggest that many have emphasized a religion of mind over a religion of the heart.

Participating in God's Life: Little Known History
http://lcofcbooks.blogspot.com/2012/01/little-known-history.html
Participating in God's Life. The Preacher's Book Club. Tuesday, January 31, 2012. In my classes I have had on Restoration History, nothing was ever said about Richardson other than the fact that he was at Bethany and had written A. Campbell's biography. This, like the slavery issue in the Restoration Movement, was given no attention at all in the books and readings we were assigned. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Connecting Church: Final Group Reflections
http://telgren01.blogspot.com/2007/09/final-group-reflections.html
Thursday, September 27, 2007. Without a common understanding based on a good theological and doctrinal foundation, there is the likelihood of co-dependent fellowship (it doesn't hold anyone to commonly understood biblical standards, possibly enabling fellowship and care without accountability), a greater lack of spiritual growth, shallow spiritual depth, and even a sense of unhappiness and discontent. The Connecting Church: Section Two: The Plague of Isolation and Geographic Solution (p.109-176)
http://telgren01.blogspot.com/2007/09/section-two-plague-of-isolation-and.html
Sunday, September 2, 2007. Section Two: The Plague of Isolation and Geographic Solution (p.109-176). According to Frazee, the second major challenge to Christian community is isolation. He suggests, among other things, that friendships that this has promoted "contractual friendships (125-126)," which usually has to involve precise planning, leading to contrived rather than a natural friendships. Frazee's solution involves realigning our lives around neighborhood community that involves:. And be sure to i...
