The lenses on the VW bus were clouded after 40 years of Californian sunbaking, so I replaced them with some clear - red - clear lenses and orange indicator bulbs. Our Sierra Yellow bus has had some panels resprayed which makes the OG paint on the other panels look comparatively pale with oxidisation. So I started with some Meguiars colour restorer and saw instant results, as shown by this rear corner panel offset against the newer paint beneath the wasteline. Inlet manifold gasket replacement. I got the rod and attached flap from the US on ebay, and the curved oil cooler flap came from a chap on the late bay forum. And here's a video of them in operation thanks to my son:. The engine's been running hot - it sounds hot, feels hot, smells hot, and the new dipstick oil temp gauge seemed to support this, with a running temp of over 100, sometime up to 130 degs. Which means that heat from the heat exchangers was being sucked into the upper engine bay, an area which is only supposed to be supplied with cool fresh air, so it can effectively cool the engine.
