Six months in a fleecy coat.

Latitude 77*33' 10.7'S Longitude 166*10' 6.5'E Shackleton probably never envisaged that their humble hut at Cape Royds would still be standing after 100 years, but they built it to be as robust as possible. It was their refuge, their base and the centre of their lives for some 14 months, providing shelter, light and warmth through the blizzards and extreme cold of an Antarctic winter. The hut is far more than the physical structure of weather beaten timbers.

Six months in a fleecy coat.: Freshies...

http://77degreessouth.blogspot.com/2007/08/freshies.html

Six months in a fleecy coat. Sunday, August 19, 2007. The arrival of the first flight since February means fresh fruit. I had a banana, and crunchy, crisp apple and an orange and it was the best orange I have ever had. It was also amazing to watch the flight bank left on the horizon and land at the Pegasus air Field. I actually felt quiet emotional as that will be us on Friday. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Shackleton's Hut - Cape Royd's Antarctica. The answer to everything is to Make Art!

Six months in a fleecy coat.: 04/01/2007 - 05/01/2007

Six months in a fleecy coat. Sunday, April 29, 2007. Clive took this better image of Helen's wreath made for Anzac Day out of old and riped route flags that were twisted into roses. Mostly red and green with black ones used to to mark 50. in the design. Placed on the Memorials at the base of our flag pole. We drove through Mac Town and Observation Hill was bathed in light from the sunset. The sun dipping below the ice shelf.the last time I'll see it for a while. The same view the next day. I decided that...

Six months in a fleecy coat. Thursday, May 31, 2007. Scream - Under par! The Scott Base Golf Course. There followed a small party, which combined Fiona and Glen’s birthdays. The encounter in the ablution block. Emily on the workshop bench playing her ball. Fiona, unusually attired at the Heineken hole. Trouble comes in threes. The weather on Thursday was beautiful and we are enjoy the full moon at the moment so there is some light outside. There was no wind and the temperature was about -11. We have also...

http://77degreessouth.blogspot.com/2007/08/days-grow-longer.html

Six months in a fleecy coat. Saturday, August 04, 2007. The days grow longer. Monday morning began with an amazingly strong burnt orange, then gave way to pinks and purples as the light increased. Friday morning with the light almost showing us the blue that is Antarctica. You could almost forget it had been dark! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Shackleton's Hut - Cape Royd's Antarctica. Six months in a fleecy coat.: The last two weeks...

http://77degreessouth.blogspot.com/2007/08/last-two-weeks.html

Six months in a fleecy coat. Friday, August 17, 2007. The last two weeks. The week has mostly been sorting out the area we have been working in and preparing for the new conservators who arrive on Monday. I managed to visit Arrival Heights with Nathan since he needed help, well someone to be present in case he fell off the antenna he was fixing. I was hoping to see the sun since it was due to break the horizon but unfortunately it was a little cloudy. This was the view at lunch time from the back door.

Work and personal bits and pieces. Wednesday, June 25. Juggling bits and pieces. Working on a web-based startup fulltime is really only possible if you have a large amount of cash behind you, and even then most investors will want their money poured in to the business idea not your salary - fair enough! Just finished preparing a paper I will be presenting at a Lexisnexis conference. Posted by Jayne Wallis. Wednesday, June 18. In Florence. Work and personal bits and pieces. Wednesday, July 18. A friend of my Phil has been down in Antartica for the last few months wintering over and helping to restore items in Shackleton's Hut. Her blog. Makes an interesting read, and the last few posts have photos of the first rays of sun that are now creeping over the horizon. While the cold weather we've been experiencing lately is resulting in a bit of cabin fever, at least its not minus 16 outside. Posted by Jayne Wallis. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Work and personal bits and pieces. Monday, September 22. What a great day Software Freedom Day turned out to be in Wellington this year. Thanks to Nat Torkington. For coming down to host and again to all organisers and sponsors for their contributions. But an even bigger thanks to everyone who came. It was amazing to see over 215 registrations. 77 Degrees Comfort - Home

Had a service tech come to the house, turns out my blower motor went out. they were quick reasonably priced! Doing a remodel and needed my AC replaced. These guys came out and did a bang-up job! The prices are very fair, and the work was exemplary! I called these guys for my yearly maintenance and they were fantastic! I generally do not take the time to write reviews, but felt compelled to do so after the service I received. The tech was informative and friendly! 77 Degrees Comfort LLC.

Six months in a fleecy coat. Monday, August 27, 2007. Our flight from the ice was delayed 24 hours due to bad weather. Saturday was a perfect clear day and after a lot of my tears we were off the ice. Back in the C-17 as if we had only arrived yesterday. Christchurch smelt lovely and tropical with the humidity and we enjoyed Hell's pizza, fresh coke, and Salad Nicoise - it is strange but good to be back. Wellington here I come.
