Since there are no roads going on further, the only way onwards from Dazhai 大寨 is a 1 day hike to Ping’an, crossing uphill through most of the scenic spots on your way. The Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces date back more than 500 years to the rule of the Ming Dynasty, and are still being cultivated by the Zhuang and Yao minorities until today. Most care taking of the rice terraces is still done manually by the villagers inhabiting the terraces.
