160;Friday, June 12, 2009. Here is the outside of the office. Up the stairs is the entrance into the security guards' office; they are always really friendly as we sign in, and always on guard for stray cars parked in front of the office or terrorists that may be passing through (the FBI's most wanted list and various terrorist pictures are prominently posted in their guard station, just in case) :. The fleet of Peace Corps Landcruisers that are ubiquitous in international development circles:. The bulle...

160;Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Every time that someone finishes his or her Peace Corps service in Nicaragua (called "COS" or close of service), he or she rings this bell that's in the middle of the office. It's a tradition that started right around the time that we got here, and today is finally our turn to ring the bell and become RPCVs, Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. At 6/16/2009 08:00:00 AM. wrestling entropy: Best Music of 2007
http://wrestlingentropy.blogspot.com/2007/12/best-music-of-2007.html
Friday, December 28, 2007. Best Music of 2007. Allrightallrightallrightallright. I've made you wait for this long, so let's just get straight to the good stuff, eh? Below I give you notes on my 2007 year-end mix, which I'm calling Minus the Drama and the Fraud. As it was in 2004. The CD version is a gift, and the list version is a simplified but fairly accurate summary of my year in music. Oh, and number one album: Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? After the Pitchfork Music Festival. Of a similarly c...

Wednesday, May 20, 2009. Well, Hello There, Stranger! I have to catch you up on all the fabulous goings-on around these parts lately. Usually when this blog is quiet, it's just because I'm being a lazy-pants, but this time it's actually because I've been too damn busy. To sit down and write (in addition to being a lazy-pants). We gotta get through this briefly or we'll be here all day:. The Flight of the Conchords, Live at the Arie Crown Theater. When I visited my brother in San Francisco last year.

wrestling entropy: Inglourious Basterds and the Year in Film
http://wrestlingentropy.blogspot.com/2009/12/inglourious-basterds-and-year-in-film.html
Monday, December 28, 2009. And the Year in Film. It probably goes without saying that Inglourious Basterds. Was one of my favorite movies this year. I'm not sure that it beats out Kill Bill. For my fave Tarantino of the '00s (I was just bowled over by what he accomplished with that film, esp. after revisiting it this summer), but it was unquestionably a highlight in the rather dull year that '09 was, for me, for movies. Put it, "No one, at this point, needs to be educated about the Nazis or the Holocaust...

160;Thursday, June 11, 2009. Today is my last day of classes at my school, INJOCRUM (Instituto Nacional José de la Cruz Mena). I’m actually pretty sad to be leaving the kids… though at the beginning of my service I sort of dreaded going to school, by the end I finally found my groove as a teacher and going to school became the only thing that I really enjoyed about being here. Here’s where I walked daily to get from the market where I got off the bus to my school. This is also where Marvin. These are som...

9 Ten Things I Love about You (Nicaragua). 160;Monday, June 08, 2009. Though I listed yesterday the things I won't miss about Nicaragua, that doesn't mean it was all bad; there are plenty of things I already begin to feel nostalgic about, and we still have a few days left here! In fact, the things that I disliked yesterday are exactly the same things I like and will miss about the place:. 8211; For the last two years we haven’t had to worry about jobs, health care, or (until recently. 8211; Public transp...

160;Saturday, June 13, 2009. Carmen has been my counterpart at school since the very beginning. Here in the English program, we are required to work with Nicaraguan counterpart teachers so we're not taking a job away from a Nicaraguan, and so our work will be more sustainable as our counterparts improve their English and their teaching methodologies. So we plan for all of the classes together on the weekends, then teach together during the week. On my last day at school the teachers threw me a despedida.
