http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/noember-14th-buenos-aires.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 14th - Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. We were up at 4.30am for the 7.10 charter flight to Ushuaia. We met some of the other Silversea passengers - a lot of Americans, some British, some Australians and a couple from Mexico. Looking down on Buenos Aires as we headed south for Ushuaia. At Ushuaia airport our bags were taken straight to the ship, while we were all taken on a bus tour round the town. Our guide was Eugenia, a charming 25-year old local girl. Mar 2007...

In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica: November 18th - At Sea to South Georgia
http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/november-18th-at-sea-to-south-georgia.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 18th - At Sea to South Georgia. We had breakfast with Emily and Jim Thurber, retired diplomats from California and very pleasant interesting people. We then had a lecture from Juan from Colombia on how the earth was formed. Up on deck, fore and aft, we could see many Cape Petrels and black-browed albatross. Some people on the front of the ship saw whales, but they quickly disappeared. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventure Drives 2001 - 2011. Mar 20...

In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica: November 23rd - At sea to Elephant Island
http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/november-23rd-at-sea-to-elephant-island.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 23rd - At sea to Elephant Island. We arrived at South Orkneys after another rough night. We were not able to get close to Monroe Island because of the conditions, and so we headed for Shingle Cove on Coronation Island. Whenever we looked outside we saw huge icebergs. Many were beautifully sculptured by the wind and the waves. At the briefing, Robin told us about the plans for tomorrow. We are hoping to land on Elephant Island, where Shackleton's men we...

Cruise across Canada - May 2010 www.drivecanada.blogspot.com. May 6th - Lake Louise. This post is being written at 7am on May 7th just before we head for Banff. And then on to tonight's stop in Calgary. Yesterday was our first rest day of the drive and because of the UK election the afternoon was spent glued to my laptop watching the election coverage on BBC. We finally got to bed around midnight, 7am in the UK, and I then realised I hadn't done my normal daily post! By the time we returned to our room t...

Cruise across Canada - May 2010 www.drivecanada.blogspot.com. May 11th - Update on Kenny's fishing expedition in Nipawin. Wendy has just reminded me that I haven't explained what happened with Kenny's fishing at Nipawin. Well, here's the photo that Kenny gave me of the fish again. Look closely, (I didn't! And you might see that the fisherman is NOT Kenny. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). September 6th 2009 - London. January 14th 2010 - Latest News. April 14th - London. April 23rd - London. Cruise across Canada - May 2010 www.drivecanada.blogspot.com. May 10th - Nipawin to The Pas, Manitoba. The road going due east from Nipawin was dead straight for 68kms before we came to the first bend. Shortly after, we came to the beginning of 100kms of good gravel taking us into the Northern Provincial Forest. After 10kms of the gravel section, who should we see coming in the opposite direction but Kenny and DeeAnne! Not long after we had met Dearld we crossed the border from Saskatchewan into Manitoba...

St.John's to Savannah - September 14th to October 3rd 2011: Savannah to Atlanta
http://newfoundlandtogeorgia.blogspot.com/2011/10/savannah-to-atlanta.html
StJohn's to Savannah - September 14th to October 3rd 2011. A three thousand eight hundred miles drive from St.John's, Newfoundland, down the Eastern Seaboard of North America, to Savannah, Georgia. The first week of the drive, from St.John's to Halifax, Nova Scotia, completes the coast to coast Canadian drive we started in May 2010, albeit driving in the opposite direction! I hate to think of people driving some of the repaired wrecks! This cotton bud looks like it has been carefully tied up like a parcel.

In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica: November 22nd - At sea to Elephant Island
http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/november-22nd-at-sea-to-elephant-island.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 22nd - At sea to Elephant Island. We had a bad night because of the rough seas, but we managed to sleep enough on and off. A view out of our cabin window of the stormy seas. Tim attended Gennady's talk on the Ozone Layer, but I chose to have a shower and a rest. After lunch, we had a lecture from Juan on glaciers, followed by a long, involved but interesting talk by Victoria on Otto Nordenskjold - a tale of coincidence and exploration. In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica: November 29th - Drake Passage
http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/november-29th-drake-passage.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 29th - Drake Passage. We were up on deck early to spot albatross. Dick, Chuck, Stuart, Tim and I saw quite a variety of them, plus a sighting of Cape Horn! The wonderful birds of the Southern Ocean. We never tired of watching them flying by the ship. We have been so lucky this far to have had a pretty smooth crossing of the Drake Passage. We sat by a portside window at breakfast and saw a Wandering Albatross! The Drake Passage, as calm as a mill pond!
