Tuesday, October 28, 2014. I'm heading off to Houston tomorrow for the annual Quilt Festival. I have mixed feelings about where I belong in this show. So what am I looking forward to this weekend? Even though a quilt show may not be the best venue for my own work, I hope to return energized about textiles in general. And I hope to have made some new connections because you never know what might lead to something interesting. Sunday, October 19, 2014. 5 Red Squares by Liz Kettle. 1 Simplicity of form.

Monday, August 25, 2014. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Last week I was in Oregon and attended a reception at a gallery. Where one of my Army Wife aprons was part of a group show. I shared my Army Wife portfolio with the curator, and she asked if the gallery could keep the portfolio for the duration of the show. Of course! It will be a great ambassador for my series. I also showed two other portfolios at lunch during a quilt show in Portland. Labels: art and life. Saturday, August 16, 2014.

Tuesday, May 27, 2014. One of the art lessons that has made a lasting impression with me was an experience my dad had when he was in art school. He told me that after laboriously drawing the day's model, the instructor had all the students erase their work, turn it upside down, and start again. The moral of the story is not to think that your work is ever too precious for improvement. I have been working on this quilt on and (mostly off) for over a decade. The whole tale is on my blog. Add a few lines fr...

Friday, March 28, 2014. Here, back after falling down the winter's rabbit hole. I've been working on a few new things but mostly resting up, reading and drinking hot tea (and coffee). One of the things that I do in the warmer weather is to rust fabric and different fibers so that I have plenty to play with in the cooler months. I've been playing around with creating collages out of bits and pieces of rusted and naturally dyed fabric. The photo really does not do it justice. Tuesday, March 25, 2014. It se...
8 that create: On Critique
http://8thatcreate.blogspot.com/2014/11/on-critique.html
Tuesday, November 25, 2014. I was thinking about critique the other night. The art center I belong to has a monthly crit group and I decided I should participate. But what to bring? I could bring a few drawings from the life drawing sessions I attend. But those are never really meant to be finished artworks, just exercises, so what would the point be? Of course, I could probably get some insight on avenues to explore in future drawing sessions, so maybe I should bring my sketches one of these days.

Saturday, September 27, 2014. I really love to travel and Italy is one of my favorite places to visit. There is something about it that speaks to me on the deepest level. The land, the people, the food. There is a simplicity and earthiness that I adore. I have only visited in summer months, so being there in the fall was pretty great. Here are a few images from our time there. On our flight over, " Tim's Vermeer". Was one of the featured documentaries! I love these small roadside shrines. In honor of the...

Sunday, July 26, 2015. Studio Story: The Transition From "Old" to "New". This is the first of several posts about the remodeling project of my studio. First, let me just say how fortunate I am to have a dedicated space in my home for my work. When we moved into this house almost 18 years (gasp! Ago I was able to claim the second master suite on the main level of the house. The space was part of a large addition to the house by the original owners, added to accommodate their elderly parents. Leslie Tucker Jenison: Finding Artistic Balance Between Competence and Growth
http://leslietuckerjenison.blogspot.com/2015/06/finding-artistic-balance-between.html
Saturday, June 13, 2015. Finding Artistic Balance Between Competence and Growth. I know I haven't written in a while. I was away for two weeks in May studying at the Crow Timber Frame Barn. Now that I am home I am working hard to empty my studio in preparation for some construction work. More on that later. I've been feeling it for a couple of years. Where might it take me? What do I hope to accomplish? What about my "other" work? Well, what about it? Look, maybe I do have a split personality when it com...

The 8th Art
Food is now a cultural and artistic movement every bit as definitive as Impressionism in 19th-century France or Film in the early 20th-century. Inspired by Georg Hagel's Lectures on Aesthetics (1835) and following Ricciotto Canudo's declaration of Film as the 7th Art (Paris 1923) we proudly announce Food as The 8th Art. Strollin' Along EighthAve
Friday, July 25, 2008. Wow, such a long time between posts! My apologies, friends. Work has had me absolutely hopping crazy lately. Additionally, taking care of two kids is more than twice as much work as one child, I've come to learn. How people cope with more than that, I just don't know. You just surrender a significant portion of your non-child aspects of life and keep going. As I said, work has been wall-to-wall for a while now, but vacation is next week, Yay! So anyway, aside from sleep, an occasio...
