BearCreekHam: December 2006
http://bearcreekham.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
A place to record my various ham radio, CERT and emergency communication adventures. If life is going to be adventurous on you, might as well make it a larger than life adventure! Sunday, December 17, 2006. The Elecraft KX-1 radio arrived on Friday (as per previous email). Powered it up yesterday, but finally got enough time to try to get it on the air this evening. Decided to try "armchair copy." Cut a 44' doublet out of some speaker twinlead and ran it though the house (my wife was laughing at me).

A place to record my various ham radio, CERT and emergency communication adventures. If life is going to be adventurous on you, might as well make it a larger than life adventure! Saturday, April 29, 2006. Got the Appalachian Trail dipole put together. I used an MFJ 33' fiberglass pole to hang it up on. That put the feedpoint roughly 30' off the ground. I had the legs in a rough "inverted vee" configuration. The end insulators were about 6 feet off the ground. Top segment: Weight supported. The top segme...

A place to record my various ham radio, CERT and emergency communication adventures. If life is going to be adventurous on you, might as well make it a larger than life adventure! Thursday, November 30, 2006. Holy cow. Lots to catch up on. Not so much time before I fall asleep. Tonight. HF was doo-doo and got on too late for SLVARC net or NTS net. So I set up the Kenwood TS-790 I've had in a box for a month or two. Older radio, but it sounds WONDERFUL. Over 6 hours, over 100 contacts. Life was good.

Discover that it is STILL sick. Mope dejectedly for 20 minutes. Swap Bencher and Begali paddles. Rejoice in low expectations.

Friday, November 26, 2010. I'll probably play a little bit in the WW DX CW contest this weekend. Nothing serious, just cherry picking to pick up some new DXCC countries. Really looking forward to a couple of the 160m contests this December and January. Hopefully I'll get to posting here regularly again. Comments: Post a Comment.

A place to record my various ham radio, CERT and emergency communication adventures. If life is going to be adventurous on you, might as well make it a larger than life adventure! Monday, February 12, 2007. Got the TenTec 238B High Power Antenna Tuner and an MFJ dummy load into the shack this evening. Time to play with the antenna tuner and my current antennas. A couple interesting discoveries. My rig's SWR protection circuit will "fold back" the power to about 10W. All in all a good evening. It will...

A place to record my various ham radio, CERT and emergency communication adventures. If life is going to be adventurous on you, might as well make it a larger than life adventure! Sunday, January 23, 2011. Lessons learned during the 2011 January ARRL VHF Sweepstakes:. 1 Get antennas / set-up ready beforehand. 2 Have a stable vehicle, operating position. 3 Computer interface is needed to readily play the "band follow-me" game. 4 Computers and radio displays don't like sunlight/glare.
