He is quite successful despite the arid climate. I thought he might appreciate a magazine subscription about gardening in the desert or in the southwest. This isnt the only thing I am doing, but I am going to have this local flower shop put bright yellow flowers in a mountain dew bottle (he is a MEGA mountain dew drinker, and everyone knows it) and attach some of his favorite candy or something and deliver it to his work.
