Progressive Buddhism: “Theravada and Vipassana- 2 Different Categories?”
http://progressivebuddhism.blogspot.com/2009/06/theravada-and-vipassana-2-different.html
Thursday, 25 June 2009. 8220;Theravada and Vipassana- 2 Different Categories? Written by Brooke Schedneck. Now that it’s summer and I have finished classes and exams in pursuit of a Ph.D., I was able to read all of the Buddhist magazines that have been piling up on my nightstand. These magazines (I subscribe to Shambhala Sun. 8220;A Lotus in Mormon Land” Charles Prebish, Buddhadharma Magazine, Fall 2008. A quick survey of the Buddhist communities in Utah yields roughly the same array of sectarian sanghas...

Progressive Buddhism: Quantum Physics and the Oneness of Reality
http://progressivebuddhism.blogspot.com/2008/09/quantum-physics-and-oneness-of-reality.html
Thursday, 25 September 2008. Quantum Physics and the Oneness of Reality. The Double Slit Experiment. So, just the act of being present and watching matter, changes the entire course of it's behavior? Interesting, isn't it? Physicists are saying that all matter and energy that 'is' and constitutes reality aren't really separate and distinct objects? So the change of one part in some aspect affects everything else in the universe? The exotic oddness doesn't stop here! 25 September 2008 at 20:24. I recently...

Progressive Buddhism: July 2014

Sunday, 27 July 2014. Listen to the Cries: What I would say to those in Conflict. Written by Denis Kurmanov. So I am going to say it, I’m going to post it here and have at least one other person see this and influence them…… you. 8230;…in such a way that we can stop this. This is of course a dream of peace and compassion that I have based on a naïve view of who we are and what we can become. What, at this point, why not? What do we have to lose? To whom can I pledge allegiance? If I was to believe in any...

Progressive Buddhism: August 2014
http://progressivebuddhism.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Friday, 8 August 2014. Is That a Cushion Under Your Arm? Or are you just happy to see me? Written by Eunsahn Citta. I'm a Buddhist, a Zen Buddhist no less, and this is my first contribution here. Since I practice Zen, there is time spent in meditation on a cushion. Do I think I'm going to get all enlightened by doing it? No, no more than it would give me a mirror-like shiny brick (read about Mazu if that seems a totally incomprehensible metaphor). Dogen said that. That led to, “Better sit under tha...

Progressive Buddhism: Yep, It's Still OK
http://progressivebuddhism.blogspot.com/2015/08/yep-its-still-ok.html
Thursday, 13 August 2015. Yep, It's Still OK. Written by Eunsahn Citta. To recap a blog I wrote here a couple months ago ("No, Really, it's OK"), my partner had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. There was some question as to whether chemotherapy would be needed, but at the very least radiation was required after the surgery. To make a 6-week long story short, radiation finished today. Five days a week for six weeks, radiation. Tomorrow, no more radiation. Correct meditation, true mindfulness, is la...

Progressive Buddhism: March 2015
http://progressivebuddhism.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, 7 March 2015. Written by Denis Kurmanov. Poetry. De profundis inferni is "from the depths of the underworld" in Latin. Christ in the Abyss statue. Prayer prayer prayer. So on so on so on. Shame shame shame. So on so on so on so on. Maybe in a little while, but not for now.not for now. No Containment is more the word. Not quite sure, hence the strange reactions all around. Do you hear that noise? No, actually I don't. Sometimes a clink, never anything worthy. So what is the concealment? Have you...

Friday, 9 January 2015. Mercy vs. Justice. Written by Denis Kurmanov. Greetings readers and my friends! I am almost completely done with my philosophical reading's of Dogen's Shobogenzo's. So I'll be posting those soon, but for now I'd like to hear some of your opinions (whether "Buddhist" or not doesn't matter) regarding the debate of "which bears richer fruit," mercy, or strict justice. My question: which bears better fruit? Should child rapists ever be shown any mercy? Is the law capable of mercy?

Progressive Buddhism: December 2014
http://progressivebuddhism.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 24 December 2014. Written by Eunsahn Citta. The holiday season. Why are there so many holidays crammed into such a short amount of time (in the US, anyway)? And how many blogs are written about this time of year? And how many of those are going to offer coping mechanisms about how to deal with family members, how not to gain weight, and any number of other topics that one might infer that the holiday season is to be dreaded rather than celebrated? There is the practice the Perfection of dana.

Progressive Buddhism: September 2014

Sunday, 21 September 2014. Written by Denis Kurmanov. Illustration credited to Alex Hill. Friends and Readers,. This is not an exposition on the phenomena of anger, but it is my anger that I will be pouring out. As the religious have for eons written confessions, dreams, and their angers as well, it is my turn. I am angry that many have lost the need for depth. In life. In fact, I am furious. Just today I was serving a gentleman. 8220;Why don’t you study something useful. I am angry that we believe we ca...
