Awards & Honors. My sculptural vessels are created predominantly using molds and various slab techniques. Though they look solid and massive, they are actually double walled and hollow inside. The surface textures and colors come from a myriad of techniques and technologies involving both the firing process and working ceramic and other materials into the wet clay when building the forms. This is a birds eye view of the saggar before firing. A clay or other ceramic material container in which to fire cer...

Wednesday, January 22, 2014. This is proving to be an abnormal winter for those of us way down in the Deep South! We usually get snow every few years, and very light snow at that. This snowstorm resulted in teachers and students stranded at school, abandoned cars all over the streets, and lots of warm couch time! So white, so pretty! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Alexandra’s Chicken Enchiladas (a.k.a. Chickiladas! Some of you may remember the blog post from several years ago when I turned a piece of sheet metal into a magnetic spice rack chalkboard. Over the years, people have grabbed a stick of chalk when no one was looking and added comical names beside the spice names. For example: "Y'all Spice," "Rosemary's Baby," "Michael Bay Leaf," and well you get the picture! I know, always the same story. Anyway, check out the recipe. Sidebar...

Monday, March 10, 2014. This year I celebrated 32 years around the sun! I decided to celebrate it with my dear friend Kristi who has a birthday the week after me. We met friend out for a lovely Indian dinner and then headed back to "Owl Manor" (my house) for fun times with friends! My musician friend Derek came over after a gig and brought in his awesome accordion. I couldn't help myself! Kristi and I blowing out the candles. Tiaras and bindis for these birthday girls! Monday, July 21, 2014. Chongqing: the biggest city youve never heard of. The climate, food and people are spicy! In Chinese people call the hot pot (which was created in Chongqing long ago by the workers as a respite from the long cold winter days) Ma-la-tang. The Sichuan peppers are numbing and I joked that there was new ring road of numbness built around my lips when I was eating my hot pot dinner. The people here are so friendly and easy going! MSG on the table. Waiting for my massage. Towards the end...

Saturday, July 26, 2014. School Visits in Qijang and Zhonghua Mountain Village. When we first arrived we met students and they practiced their English with us. School was already out for summer, but they came back just to welcome us. They were so sad to see us go and both sides waved goodbye until we were no longer in sight. She is an art teacher too! You can see the work of her talented high school students below. The kids performed a scene from Mulan. They were beautiful and so was their English! In Ch...
