Friday, September 20, 2013. Hey lonely single guys, want to feel the rush of literally hundreds of women chasing after you? Be like me last weekend and agree to be the Rabbit at an all-women's race! Thanks to Tracy Dahl, RD of the annual VHTRC Women's Trail Half-Marathon. This was my morning last Saturday (Thanks to the great Aaron Schwartzbard. For all the photos! Less than 4 minutes before the start, they told me I had to wear the Bunny hat too! One second to go! Posted by Dan Rose. Iron Horse 100 Mile...

Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Reverb Day 31: Lists. Well, it has been a fun month of December to reflect, manifest, and reverb! I kept up for the most part. I lost a bunch of steam the past seven days or so. I would like to give a shout out of THANKS! To the 3 different Reverb Organizers this year:. And her #reverb13 on her web site "I Saw You Dancing". Kat was also very busy on twitter tweeting out other reverber's posts. Meredith, Kat and Sarah spearheaded this effort. Account with new blogs to read.

Wednesday, April 21, 2010. Paradise found (almost.). In a mere 24 hours, Aimee and I will be well on our way to San Jose, Costa Rica. Needless to say, the past few days have been pretty excruciating. I tend to fall into the "night before Christmas kid" category for big things like this; likely at this point my coworkers are sick and tired of hearing about my trip, and it hasn't even happened yet! The view that will hopefully greet us into Arenal/La Fortuna tomorrow afternoon. The first two days in Arenal.

Monday, June 29, 2015. This race came onto my radar when the VHTRC ambassador (Gary Knipling) declared it the destination race for 2015. I think I had previously considered this race, but had rejected it because it was too far from Virginia, and it did have some altitude. The first excuse was minimized due to the fact that I now live in Alabama, and I could make it to Sheridan, Wyoming in my plane with only one fuel stop. So, I began trying to recruit from my co-workers, and the summer intern volunteered.

Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Mt Cheaha 50k - Simply Beautiful! I am in the Talladega National Forest getting ready to run my second new ultra-race here in Alabama. Last month, I enjoyed the surprisingly challenging and interesting Mountain Mist race. This month, the Mt. Cheaha 50k race is before me, and I have had a good few weeks of training. Three weeks ago, I blitzed an 18-mile tempo run, so I am feeling confident coming into this race. My daughter, Amy, is again crewing for me today. The race begins in a...

Tuesday, January 27, 2015. Mountain Mist 50k - a little snow and a lot of mud. Now living in Huntsville gives me the perfect opportunity to explore a new set of regional races that I would never have traveled to from Virginia. The race I have heard the most about in Huntsville is the Mountain Mist 50k. Rick Gray highly encouraged me to run this race when I saw him at the Barkley Fall Classic, so I signed up as soon as possible. Darin before the start. I think the temperature at the start is around 30.

Saturday, October 11, 2014. Barkley Fall Classic 2014. Race Director Lazarus Lake and Darin. One part of fear is not knowing what lies before you. This is what I am facing this weekend—the inaugural Barkley Fall Classic. The Barkley Marathons is the toughest 100 miler in the country based on times run and how difficult it is to finish under the 60 hour cut-off. It is famous, while being low key and secretive. It is a pleasant Friday afternoon drive from Huntsville, Alabama to Wartburg, Tennessee. The mov...

Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Bull Run Run 2014. It is Friday afternoon, and I am driving myself up to Northern Virginia to run the Bull Run Run 50 miler tomorrow. This will be my 10. Finish at this race. I don’t have a crew this year, but I am totally fine with that. I check in and find my bunk. Then I go to dinner with Snipes and a couple of other people at Carrabba’s. I have beef marsala with garlic potatoes, and I also have several pieces of their wonderful bread. I will eat some more during the race.

Tuesday, October 20, 2015. Cumberland Trail 50k - A True Test. When I decided to run this race, I liked the date as it is 10 weeks before Hellgate. This would allow me to run another race on November 7—5 weeks before Hellgate. Initially, I was looking at the Stump Jump 50k in Chattanooga, but that filled up very quickly so I found this race and decided it would be good. The field is small, and it is a point-to-point race. I got my t-shirt and asked about race numbers. I don’t think crews are possib...
