Thursday, August 17, 2006. Adventures in Newfoundland: Piss clams, Whales and a Crisis Day 3. A lot has happened since my last entry, about 12 hours ago. A) a local taxi cab driver on Wednesday gave us a very puzzled look when we mentioned the Alamo car rental place and he had no idea where Jolly Harbour could be. C) But what finally clued me in was when I phoned the Alamo (and it was long distance – curious) and the guy on the other line mispronounced Newfoundland as he repeated it with puzzlement...

Melissa's Place: How Teachers are Born
http://melissaloftus.blogspot.com/2014/04/how-teachers-are-born.html
Saturday, April 12, 2014. How Teachers are Born. Cole finally loves swimming lessons. And last Thursday evening, just a few minutes before we were slotted to leave for swimming lessons, he announced that his ear hurt. It had, he declared, been hurting all day. So my husband took him to the walk-in clinic and he had to miss swimming lessons. Fin. Du. Monde. To console a heart-broken beached little boy, I promised we could go to the Family Swim on Saturday. And Amelia replied in her Amelia-type way, ".

Melissa's Place: Beautiful
http://melissaloftus.blogspot.com/2015/01/beautiful.html
Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Today, Amelia is home "sick". This means she threw up at daycare and they say she can't go back for 24-hours. Luckily, she seems to be feeling better. This is why she was with me when I dropped Cole off at the YMCA before-school program at his school. When we were leaving, as I buckled Amelia into the car, she sighed happily and said to me, "Sahar is so BEAUTIFUL. She always gives me things.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Backwards Progress - Chemical Edition: Second thoughts on Sunscreen
http://achemicalrecall.blogspot.com/2012/05/second-thoughts-on-sunscreen.html
A Backwards Progress - Chemical Edition. Much of what we call progress is backwards. And much of what we call backwards is progress. Saturday, May 5, 2012. Second thoughts on Sunscreen. Since I've started work on a farm for the summer, I'll be wearing lots of sunscreen every day! Did you know that there are controversial issues surrounding sunscreen use? The Environmental Working Group has put together a great site. Highlighting some of the studies and controversies. Avoid oxybenzone and 4-MBC. I'm curio...

A Backwards Progress - Chemical Edition: Shampoo Relapse
http://achemicalrecall.blogspot.com/2012/04/shampoo-relapse.html
A Backwards Progress - Chemical Edition. Much of what we call progress is backwards. And much of what we call backwards is progress. Monday, April 30, 2012. I've gone back to regular shampoo! The baking soda seemed to be causing breakage where my highlights are growing out. I tentatively blame this on the weakened hair that was dyed, but after I grow it all out and have less fuzz I will have to try again and confirm if this is the case. A Backwards Progress - Chemical Edition: Spring Break-Up
http://achemicalrecall.blogspot.com/2012/04/spring-break-up.html
A Backwards Progress - Chemical Edition. Much of what we call progress is backwards. And much of what we call backwards is progress. Thursday, April 19, 2012. The following is a message from the David Suzuki Foundation:. Great relationships are built on trust. That's why it is shocking to learn that many big brand name household cleaners aren't listing all their ingredients on the label - especially those that may pose long-term health. And environmental risks to our families. View my complete profile.

http://melissaloftus.blogspot.com/2008/06/carcassonne-carcassonne-is-game-made-by.html
Monday, June 09, 2008. Carcassonne is a game made by those clever Germans. The same Germans who are responsible for the delights of the Settlers of Catan. Unlike Catan, however, Carcassonne has a different tone. It seems more cooperative than competitive. To the game. It is almost comical and I thought perhaps I was imagining the cordiality of it all. Until, that is, Carolyn was reading the final set of instructions on how to determine the overall winner. Ben and Maryann Roebuck. Yes, I'm still bitter.

http://melissaloftus.blogspot.com/2006/07/superman-is-jesus-i-had-teacher-of.html
Monday, July 03, 2006. I had a teacher of grade 10 English, whose name escapes me. She had long scraggledy blonde hair, liked to suck on lollipops all day and began every class with a discussion about Melrose Place. Ever since Ms. M, I feel I am acutely primed to pick up any biblical references in books, movies, poetry, advertising, you name it! Well, last night, I went to see Superman Returns. I won’t give the rest away. It was a lovely story, if a bit cheeseball. Ben and Maryann Roebuck. When Supes ros...
