おせち料理 は、もともとは季節の変わり目の節句に神様にお供えした料理 またはそのレシピ から来た名称と言われています。 漢字では お節 と表記し、季節の変わり目の神事に欠かせないお供え物 料理 全体を指していましたが、その後一年のうちで最も重要とされる年初めの祝いの料理のみが おせち料理 と呼ばれるようになりました。 例えば、おせち料理に欠かせないエビは 長寿の象徴 と言われ、長いヒゲが生え、腰が曲がるほどの長寿を祈るという意味を持ち、お子様からお年寄りまで人気がある栗きんとんは 豊かさと勝負運 を祈願したもの、数の子は 子宝と子孫繁栄 を、黒豆はマメに元気で健康に 元気に長く働ける ということを祈願しています。
