Get to know your friendly neighborhood copywriter. I’ve been a writer for nine years, including two tours of duty at really wonderful creative agencies. I started out as a newspaper reporter, but I gave it up because I got tired of yelling What a scoop! And wearing the fedora with the press pass in the brim. And I live in New Hampshire, where the motto is Live Free or Die. I try to stay on the live free side of things. I bake a real mean loaf of pumpkin bread.

Please Pass the Pie: March 2011
http://pleasepassthepie.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 31, 2011. My Big Secret: Make-Ahead Coconut Rice. Food friends, I have a secret to tell you. I never miss an episode of America's Next Top Model. Okay, that secret just kind of snuck out. The secret I really meant to share is this: I don't cook that much during the week. I love being in the kitchen, but by the time I get home from work, my stomach is rumbling to the tune of "Born to Be Wild" and I just can't wait another minute to eat. Pre-made meals it is. 2 cups jasmine rice, rinsed.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010. Hopping on the Food Blogger Bandwagon: Macarons. If you read food blogs regularly, you're no doubt aware of the macaron. Craze Could you respect me as a blogger if I didn't make my own attempt at these little confections? I didn't think so. In that case, here they are: raspberry and cheese-filled macarons. I used a great recipe. From Tartelette, skipping the pink food coloring and substituting cream cheese for the mascarpone. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Christmas Shopping for a Cook. Are you making your list and checking it twice? If there's a cook on your Christmas list, I have a few tried-and-true recommendations for you. 1 The classic Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. 2 Envirosax Reusable Bags. The earth-friendliness is nice, I guess, but I just think these bags are super cute. If you're going to carry a lot of groceries, you should do it in style. 3 Vintage dishware (photo via Pinterest. 4 A sassy apron. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Please Pass the Pie: November 2010

Saturday, November 27, 2010. Hot from the oven: Baked donuts. Plain baked donuts, ready for glaze. Or a glass of milk. I've got a small kitchen, so I try to stick to the basics and must-haves when it comes to kitchen gadgets. And a donut pan is not a must-have. But it is fun. So when Cookwear.com offered to send me something from the store to try out, I made an exception to my basics-and-must-haves rule. The Fox Run non-stick donut pan. As far as recipes go, I recommend checking out King Arthur Flour.

Please Pass the Pie: Pumpkin Muffins: Energy Food for Runners (and Other People)
http://pleasepassthepie.blogspot.com/2011/11/pumpkin-muffins-energy-food-for-runners.html
Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Pumpkin Muffins: Energy Food for Runners (and Other People). So, here are some things I like to do: I like to cook. I like to eat. I like to run. Occasionally, all three come together for me. A trifecta of happiness, if you will. Like when I make (and consume) recipes created with runners in mind. I adapted my recipe from one by Mark Bittman. Published in Runner's World a few months back. Mark is super-smart and knows good food, so you can totally trust the original. 2 1/2 cups...
Please Pass the Pie: February 2011

Thursday, February 3, 2011. A life-changing burger. No, really. Here's a confession: I don't really like burgers that much. I mean, they're okay. Better than lima beans, for instance. But I wouldn't put them on my list of must-haves. Unless they were this burger. On Sundays, Ben and I have a little routine. I agree to watch (meaning sleep through) football if he'll watch America's Test Kitchen. At the ATK website, you can get a detailed recipe and a step-by-step video. From the same show. They are al...

Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Pumpkin Cheesecake: It's Just Good. A few weeks ago, I posted on Pinterest that pumpkin is one of my top 10 reasons for living. I'd say that statement is only about 50% hyperbole. People, I just love pumpkin. In my oatmeal. In my chili. And definitely in my cheesecake. That kind of stuff makes me crazy.). The recipe I like to use. How do you like to use pumpkin? Do tell. Below. Like, in the comments. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Keep up with the latest.
Please Pass the Pie: May 2011

Friday, May 6, 2011. Authentic, no. Awesome, yes. Kung Pao Chicken. So let me say first that I like authentic ethnic food. Let me say next that I also like the food that you get in American Chinese restaurants, which, by all accounts, isn't very Chinese. Food is food, and I figure it's always authentic to somewhere, so I don't get too wound up about what kind of cooking it is as long as it's tasty. From NPR's All Things Considered.) Not feeling so adventurous? You can try my recipe, from Cooking Light.

Sunshine and Shadows | The Knaub family in a few words by Abbie
The Knaub family in a few words by Abbie. A vintage day …. April 19, 2015 by abbieknaub. Antique pie basket (with a rack inside to make room for two pies) from my Grandma Lena Moeller via my Aunt Joan. Vintage sweater of my Grandma Idella Lorenz. Striped silk skirt from a dear friend in Kansas. Two apple pies to fill the basket and take to dinner at a friend’s house. Halloween (I know it’s February). February 23, 2015 by abbieknaub.
