Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica. Thursday, November 4, 2010. So, I finally have good enough Internet to upload a few photos to the blogfrica and in true African style, it only took 2 months. Everything in Africa moves polepole (slowly slowly, pronounced poh-lay poh-lay). Here is a view of Mt. Kilimanjaro from a the rooftop of a hotel in Moshi! Some of the interns got to go to Neema Orphanage for a whole day! This little guy was the second youngest baby they take care of! The toddlers were my favorite! First o...

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica: September 2010

http://abbyinmoshi.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Today wasn’t a great day. Something that I haven’t loved about CCS is that they aren’t always incredibly organized when it comes to placements. Watoto Rau, my nursery school, is on break for a week. Living told Julia and I that we would go to an orphanage during this week. Today I was not brought to an orphanage. Julia and I were taken to a juvenile detention center. Then, quite randomly, the last mural was of boys and girls playing basketball.

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica: Chia-Like, I Shall Grow

http://abbyinmoshi.blogspot.com/2010/10/chia-like-i-shall-grow.html

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica. Thursday, October 7, 2010. Chia-Like, I Shall Grow. Chia-Like, I Shall Grow! Not only a title to a song by a band called “Say Anything”, but also my new personal mantra for this trip. Maybe even a possible tattoo idea when I finish this trip? Maybe put it somewhere in Swahili? Although, I doubt there’s any real translation for Chia.just kidding mom and dad! I had a real experience of personal growth today. Lastly, they rely on volunteers to do seminars on HIV/AIDS. The previou...

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica: Someone Tell Ms. Luth I'm an English Teacher!

Abby in Moshi: A Blogfrica. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Someone Tell Ms. Luth I'm an English Teacher! In between doing HIV/AIDS seminars at Urumwaella I’ve been going with Julia (another volunteer) to her placement at a secondary school called Kilimahewa. We teach 2 English classes there. The classes are a little more advanced than counting to ten and learning how to write the alphabet. It’s a far cry from Watoto Rau, but it’s a fun challenge. For example: He goes to school. He is going to school. For exa...

A ogni uccello il suo nido è bello. | Thoughts from a former Perugina

A ogni uccello il suo nido è bello. Thoughts from a former Perugina. Updates from “the real world”. June 16, 2015. June 16, 2015. I’ve been absolutely horrible at keeping this blog up, for multiple reasons:. I am now living in a new town with a new apartment with new kitchen utensils. I finally caved and got an iPhone. Now I get why all you Apple people love them so much. Grad school takes up the majority of any free time I thought I would have coming into this summer. In Colorado with my friends Jess.

Abby in Japan | Studying abroad at Waseda University!

Studying abroad at Waseda University! Please read before coming to Japan. I’m going to make a full post later with ALL my advice, but I wanted to give this its own post while I’m thinking about it. Above: Me at Earlham before going to Japan. Hanging out in the dorm in a t-shirt and sweats (often went to class like this too). Right: Me in Japan during orientation (right). Wearing a dress on a day out, trying real hard! If you look at pictures from my year in Japan, you might not be able to tell that I cha...

abby.in.lesotho | a year of extending and gleaning in rural Lesotho

A year of extending and gleaning in rural Lesotho. Liminality and a poem. July 13, 2013. Here’s my poem from my time of reflecting here. I’d encourage you all to listen to the audio here. Because it has a kind of rhythm with it. I came in, in limbo. How things would be. How I should be. What life could be. I came in, in mourning. Where I flew before. Who I knew before. How I grew before. I came in, in darkness. Waking in sight of. Dry grass in places, and. Deep rifts in spaces, and. I came in, in laughter.

Upgrade to paid account! Jan 7th, 2007 06:10 pm. Just got back from New York yesterday where I spent 10 wonderful days. We decided to spend the eve of New Year's and the days thereafter in our favorite City. I'm beginning to think I'm off to a good start this year. Yet as I greeted the New Year with a toast and a big smile, I realized what the hell. Leave it all in 2006! Time to make a change and start making that walk forward. I need a fresh start. I was able to see the world from someone else’s eyes fo...

Saturday, January 12, 2008. If two heads are better than one, then what about two scooters? Wednesday, January 2, 2008. Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) Ahhhhh! Lily, my crazy sister had just jumped off a bridge. I know what you're thinking; no she is not dead and no she is not seriously injured. She was bungy jumping, geez, did you think my sister would be stupid enough to do that? Thursday, December 6, 2007. My Mom told me that if I needed anything, just knock on the wall. 8220;Who’s there? After lunch, we we...
