July 13, 2010. I supped at an Indian restaurant last night, and some of us are at risk of becoming regulars there. Today we had lunch at a Zanzibari restaurant near the school – Oman has a long history with Zanzibar, from the days of Omani colonialism on the eastern coast of Africa, and the result is a lot of Zanzibaris here. The picture at the top of the blog is a photograph I took in Beirut of a bullet-ridden wall with a peaceful and optimistic mural on it. Just one of the reasons I fell in love with Lebanon. Salalah and another week done. July 27, 2010. Last Tuesday I left the center with 7 friends and caught the 13-hour bus to Salalah, 7pm – 8am, skipping class on Wednesday. Saturday was Eid al-Nahda, National Renaissance Day or something like that which I’ll get into later, so we had ourselves Wednesday-Saturday for Salalah. Yesterday afternoon we found out that today had been turned into an inservice day, with no students. Tomorrow is a half day inservice, as planned. World spins madly on. All it takes is a a little faith, and a lot of heart. Thursday May 14, 2009. Testing, testing 1-2-3. D-STEP, DACS, DRA, SAT-10, and an end-of-year math test. So it’s really more like testing, testing, 1-2-3-4-5… it’s been incessant since the beginning of April. The kiddos are totally tested out. But I’m thrilled with our EOY math results so far. Part I: class average of 94%. Part II: class average of 90%. Two more parts to go, hoping this trend continues! Laquo; Amy the hobo?
