A Bibliophile’s Blog. About food, books, knitting, crocheting, pets, life and other stuff. Buy a sweater – make something new. In my travels through the internet and clicking on links and then another link I found a website:. And decided to help the children in South Africa stay warm. Please read the website, if you knit or crochet, this is a very easy project to help children. The colors reminded me of a sunset on a stormy night, brilliant orange going to a shade darker and darker. What a brilliant idea!

kerrykatiecakes: Embossing Velvet

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2009/02/embossing-velvet.html

Friday, February 27, 2009. The technique is simple so I'll explain it step by step. No pictures I'm afraid because I only have two hands and everyone seems to be avoiding me this last week so there is no one nearby to help with the camera. lol. 1 Choose a rubber stamp you want to use and place it stamp side up on your ironing surface. 4 Using your trusty spray bottle of water moisten the back of the velvet. Do not use steam in your iron. Empty the water of your iron first just in case! Leave a comment on...

kerrykatiecakes: Tutorial - Braid Stitch

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2009/11/tutorial-braid-stitch.html

Monday, November 16, 2009. Tutorial - Braid Stitch. I used a new stitch this week and thought I would share so here is a little tutorial on how to do the braid stitch. Begin by making a small straight stitch as shown above. Bring your needle up again a small bit below. Take your thread up and under the straight stitch you made and take it down as close as possible to where you came up but not in the same hole. Thank you very much Kerry for this stitch as it came at a time of what to do next on Margreets ...

kerrykatiecakes: Tutorial - Encrusted Beading Stitch

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2011/05/tutorial-encrusted-beading-stitch.html

Friday, May 27, 2011. Tutorial - Encrusted Beading Stitch. I begged the teacher of my Fabric Manipulation class at Seminar to teach us this Encrusted Beading Stitch when I saw the results on one of her pieces! She did, and it is so simple but the results can be stunning (well, hers were - mine need more practice, lol). This little "bead lump" is what each stitch looks like when it is done. Here you can see the type of effect you can get using this stitch - such fun! I hope you enjoy it! Printing Images f...

kerrykatiecakes: Tutorial - Chained Fly Stitch

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2011/06/tutorial-chained-fly-stitch.html

Friday, June 24, 2011. Tutorial - Chained Fly Stitch. Chained Fly is an interesting stitch, or perhaps more accurately a stitch combination. Begin by making a row of fly stitch such as I have done along this seam. Add a second row, back to back with the first, situated so that the rails of the two rows of fly stitch create a series of close bars. This one looks like fun! Thank you for putting up these tutorials. Katy. June 25, 2011 at 6:44 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

kerrykatiecakes: Tutorial - Crown Stitch

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2010/12/tutorial-crown-stitch.html

Saturday, December 11, 2010. Tutorial - Crown Stitch. Crown Stitch was a new one to me so I have created a tutorial to share - hope it is helpful! In the second step you will take your needle down directly below from where it came up, creating a vertical straight stitch. Bring your needle up again at the upper end of this straight stitch, a tiny bit to the left. Even if my words are not clear, I hope the photos are. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). kerrykatiecakes: More Fun with Buttons

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2010/05/more-fun-with-buttons.html

Wednesday, May 26, 2010. More Fun with Buttons. I have been playing around some more with buttons and I guess what I am doing is basically decoupage. In refining my method, I have decided that I prefer to sew the button in place first. Then I use masking tape to attach pieces of aluminum foil under and around the button to protect the fabric. The two I have been working on are for Carolyn's Pansy RR blocks. What a great idea! May 27, 2010 at 6:43 AM. Fantastic idea, looks like it is painted! Printing Ima...

kerrykatiecakes: Tutorial - Beaded Backstitch

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2009/05/tutorial-beaded-backstitch.html

Monday, May 25, 2009. Tutorial - Beaded Backstitch. I thought perhaps a little tutorial would be in order for this Beaded Backstitch since I have only ever seen it in Helan Pearce's excellent book, "Beaded Dimensional Embroidery". Here are the three lines of this stitch that I have done to "hang" Leslie's ornaments. I think it makes a nice springy string for them! These are wonderful, Kerry- love the concept and the beading is beautiful. Lynn, SoCal. May 26, 2009 at 8:42 AM. May 26, 2009 at 8:48 AM.

kerrykatiecakes: Beaded Feather Stitch

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2008/12/beaded-feather-stitch.html

Friday, December 12, 2008. Several people had admired the beaded feather stitch that I enjoy using on seam treatments so I have decided to write up a little "how-to" on it. And since one picture is worth a thousand words I went a little crazy with the pictures! After securing your thread well on the back come up to the left of your seam and then thread six beads onto your thread. You can use more beads but the key is to make sure they are an even number (6, 8, etc). After making two stitches downward and...

Saturday, May 30, 2015. New Blackwork Piece - "Kick Up Your Heels". This my new blackwork design, Kick up Your Heels! I am pretty excited about this - it was a lot of fun to design and stitch and I loved playing with the colours. Here is a closer shot if you would like to see more details - check out the purple crystals - gotta love that bling! May 30, 2015 at 10:23 PM. Carol- Beads and Birds. May 31, 2015 at 4:43 AM. kerrykatiecakes: Butterfly Tutorial

http://kerrykatiecakes2.blogspot.com/2010/07/butterfly-tutorial.html

Sunday, July 25, 2010. Here is the butterfly tutorial as promised. I keep making small changes in the way I make them so all I can say is that this is the way I made. First you will need some fabric with realistic butterflies repeating in the design. As you can see, I have already used this fabric once before. Instead this time I decided to press the excess under the wrong side of the butterflies. In one I basted the edge over before pressing. On the other I used a glue stick. Once it was sewn together t...

Thursday, January 5, 2017. Review: Everything, Everything-Nicola Yoon. My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla. Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster. Could this book have possibly rid me of my slump? Despite all...
