Favorites of the Moment. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Follow-up: Brad and Angelina, Shrek and Fiona. One thing I want to start doing on the blog is following up on earlier pieces when the same or related issues come up later, as is often the case. For example, you may recall my piece on why marriage matters to kids, " If It's Good Enough for Brad and Angelina. I discussed the famous couple's initial commitment not. Photo by Eric Ryan/ Getty Images. The subject has come up again in the media. It's a simpl...

My Life with Pie: The Black Hole
http://www.mylifewithpie.com/2014/07/the-black-hole.html
Favorites of the Moment. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. I am underwater. Or maybe in a tunnel. I know there is light above, somewhere, and I want to reach for it, to embrace it, but something holds me back. I'm groggy. I feel heavy. Pulling myself up seems like a Herculean task. And yet, I cannot fail to do these things. Can I? She does not care about any of that. Of course, like any other human being, I've been sad before. I've cried over disappointments, losses, sad situations, the troubles of friends and...

My Life with Pie: Untethered
http://www.mylifewithpie.com/2014/07/untethered.html
Favorites of the Moment. Friday, July 25, 2014. Ironically, my last post. Was about Anna’s taking many pictures of me due to her fear that I would die and that she wouldn’t be able to cope with it. As I wrote that post, I could not have even imagined that, just over a month later, I would be the one losing a parent. That people can hold onto that provides even just a little. Sadly, that was the case with my dad. Dad and me, June 8, 2014. He died on June 24, 2014. Less than a month after his diagnosis.

In the past, many people for some reason associated tattoos with sailors or prison inmates or gang members. However, the art of tattoo is becoming more and more mainstream with time. Now, it could be that your doctors, your kids' teachers, and heck, even your lawyers (cough cough) have tattoos. On my birthday the follow...

My Life with Pie: The Adventure Begins
http://www.mylifewithpie.com/2011/06/adventure-begins.html
Favorites of the Moment. Thursday, June 2, 2011. Becoming a parent is rather like skydiving: once you take the plunge, there’s no turning back. Not that I would know about the skydiving because there’s no way in hell I’d ever do that! But, I can appreciate the similarity, the embarking on an adventure that is simultaneously terrifying and thrilling. And once you do that, nothing is ever the same – in a remarkable, amazing way. The woman is in labor, just wake Heidi and be done with it. Even the idea.

My Life with Pie: Worrywart!
http://www.mylifewithpie.com/2011/08/worrywart.html
Favorites of the Moment. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. There are no worries like those that you have about your child. Now, I’ve always had a predisposition for anxiety. I’m not just anxious about big things, but I’m also overly concerned about stupid little things. I am also restless and tense and wander around the house puttering when I can. Funny Faces, July 2011. But there’s no magic pill than can get rid of your worries about your child. When I dated people (the ones they knew about, anyway)? Holding a n...
