Flipside: Tombstone Tuesday--William Christian Olesen
http://lindasflipside.blogspot.com/2009/04/tombstone-tuesday-william-christian.html
Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Tombstone Tuesday- William Christian Olesen. I have no photos of my great grand uncle Bill. I do have some accounts of him from my aunt and father. He was a quiet and gentle man who enjoyed having a hug from his grandniece. He smoked a pipe and enjoyed sitting on the porch. There is a story that Bill left England because he had "stirred up trouble" at his work with the workers against the employer. Perhaps an early striker! Olesen Family also found on Flipside:. I'm back at it.

Tuesday, March 31, 2015. John George Hughes and Elizabeth Olesen Hughes Death Certificates. I did not wait until Pennsylvania finally posted their death certificates on line. John George Hughes and Elizabeth Olesen Hughes are my paternal great grandparents and I was in a "need to know" frame of mind years ago. The state of Pennsylvania was very happy to accept my check for copies of both. To permanently seal her mouth! Kae was extremely proud to tell the story. Death Certificate of John George Hughes.

Flipside: My Grandfather, World War I and ALOT of Bureaucratic Red Tape
http://lindasflipside.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-grandfather-world-war-i-and-alot-of.html
Friday, February 20, 2009. My Grandfather, World War I and ALOT of Bureaucratic Red Tape. When the United States entered World War I, George was most anxious to serve. He immediately went to the nearest recruitment office and as the family story goes…he was rejected for active duty due to his poor eyesight. One might say that my grandfather was “hell bent” to serve, and decided if the Americans wouldn’t take him, that he would take a train up to Toronto, and enlist there. While Grandfather was serving in...

Hopefully by giving prominence to these items, they will continue to be valued by family members for years to come. Although old, dirty and battered, it is a well loved and respected piece of the Hughes Family History. George Henry Hughes and his World War I service. I'm back at it.
