Aboriginal Art

Friday, June 16, 2006. I met John Weeronga Bartoo a few months ago. He lives about 30 minutes drive from where I am. He is an Aboriginal man who was raised by white parents and was taught only European custom. In his words . "raised as a white man". He has since taken the time to rediscover his aboriginal heritage, and paints spiritually intense art works. Here is a link to some of his paintings. Posted by Chui Tey at 9:39 AM. Aboriginal Art: Dreamings

http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2005/01/dreamings.html

Monday, January 03, 2005. The Aboriginal people have a lot of folk stories, which relate to animals. These stories have morals in them, and form the basis of how the Aboriginals conduct themselves. Nowadays, there are a sizable number of Aboriginal people who are Christian. However, these stories - called "dreamings" - are still part of their cultural heritage and cherished. Can you identify all the native Australian animals? Comments are most welcome! I'll provide the answers in the next few days.

Aboriginal Art: Humour 閑話

http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2005/01/humour.html

Monday, January 31, 2005. This town in Australia is called Eromanga. In Aboriginal language, this means 'hot, windy plain'. Japanese readers will probably think it means something else. A lot of towns in Australia have Aboriginal names. It is quite common to see the names repeated. I have been told this is the plural form, to indicate many. For example:. Wagga Wagga - "Place of many crows". Kurri Kurri - "Hurry Along". Are there any places in Japan that are like this?

Aboriginal Art: Kangaroo

http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2005/01/kangaroo.html

Tuesday, January 04, 2005. This is a dot painting in the style most people know as Australian Aboriginal art. The colours were selected to match the pigments that were used by their ancestors in the red deserts of Australia. Very ancient rock and cave paintings have been found with native animals painted in this abstract style. Some of these dot paintings are simply exhilarating to see in person, because they can be so complex, and yet simple at the same time. Posted by Chui Tey at 10:25 AM.

Aboriginal Art: Health note: Australian fish

http://aboriginalpainting.blogspot.com/2005/04/health-note-australian-fish.html

Tuesday, April 12, 2005. My sister warned me about eating Australian fish, especially tuna. Since I like tuna very much, I'm not too happy to hear this. Japanese readers should be interested in this, because some Australian tuna end up in Japanese supermarkets. People who like whale. Should be even more careful. UN Atlas of the Oceans
