Stonehenge magnificent sarsen stones. In Ireland the chamber of the mound at Newgrange. Is illuminated by the winter solstice sunrise. A shaft of sunlight shines through the roof box over the entrance and penetrates the passage to light up the chamber. At the nearby mound at Dowth. The winter solstice sunset illuminates one of the chambers. Whatever the original purpose of Stonehenge, it certainly would have been a magnificent ancient temple, a place of spiritual, religious and ceremonial importance.

At Johanna's - Stonehenge

Years ago I heard the album Stone(d)henge from the rockgroup Ten Years After. On the cover were pictures of the large stones from Stonehenge. I always loved their music and as I saw the stones I knew I wanted to go there one day. Well in july 2001 it happened. I visited the south of England and I also visited Stonehenge. It was a weird experience! I did some research on it and found out, that by now Stonehenge is in a very bad state and I saw that that is true. By now there is the English Heritage group.
